Actually, Timmy Gatling left GUY while the group's first album was going to press -- that's why MCA Records left his songs (the unofficial Al B. Sure!-written "You Can Call Me Crazy" and "My Business") on the album. That's also how Teddy Riley brought in Damion Hall.

What "Groove Me" video did you see? The one I saw featured Damion Hall along with his brother Aaron and Teddy Riley.

I thought Timmy did the Basic Black album after the Guy album?!?!?

I remember reading an interview with Teddy Riley where he said that Timmy screwed them all out of the royalties from the first Guy cd. I believe that Timmy still receives all of the sales royalties. Who knows?

No, you're thinking of their manager, Gene Griffin. See "Total Control" from The Future.

Despite being a huge Teddy fan and freely admitting they were a complete and total rip-off of Guy, I love some of those Basic Black jams (especially "What Ever It Takes"). Teddy apparently agreed with me, because he later worked with their lead singer.

What you saw my friend was the remake video after Tim left. The original video had Tim on it before the actual album dropped, I remember wathcing it with my cousins on Soulbeat and BET back in the day. Teddy and the guys remade the video after the "Round and Round" video because they re-released the single "Groove Me" a second time. If you go back to the chart history you will see the song hitting its peak twice on the R&B charts. After that were of course were "I Like" and "Spend The Night" videos. All hail to R&b the true music form.

The video of "Groove Me" I saw with Damion Hall was in the summer of 1988, when the song was released. In fact, Crazy Legs appeared on "Soul Train" with Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall while the song was climbing up the charts.

"Groove Me" was never re-released as a single. Not only do I have the Billboard references to back up that claim, here is a link from a Web site that has charted Billboard R&B singles since 1986:

http://www.soulsystem.it/...track=2620

The song peaked at No. 4 the week of June 8, 1988. If the song was re-released, it would reflect on that site (NOTE: songs was re-released only in the case of another audience hearing the song later and the record company tries to capitalize on it -- for example, Prince's "1999").

The only good songs on it really were i need help and rock me good.

looks like a great deal phunkdaddy. and somebody's crying is a nice slow song. the force md's still put out cd's although I believe two of them are no longer with the music scene.
