Duran Duran new album update

http://www.chartattack.co...2/2305.cfm

Duran Duran Giddy About New Material

Duran Duran keyboardist Nick Rhodes is extremely excited about the band's as-yet untitled new album, which they're recording at a London, England studio.

The new LP is the follow-up to 2004's Astronaut and is the group's first since parting ways with guitarist Andy Taylor. They're working with producer Nate Hills and engineer Jimmy Douglas on the record.

"Our metamorphosis throughout 2006 developed in unexpected ways, maybe Kafka could have concocted an explanation, but the fiction became friction and our reality changed," Rhodes said in a recent post about Taylor's departure and the new album on the band's website. "Our sound exploded with pop culture's brightest flowers, we unlocked some doors that had been closed for far too long, and released a startling energy which manifested itself in the songs.

"This is for us, this is for you, for me it is without question the most exciting, vibrant, over amped Duran Duran release for many new moons, so let's see where the space ship takes us."

Im really hoping this record is just a DURAN DURAN record and not some "producers" record, that will bury their work under beats. I have heard rumours that Andys departure was not so much to his "issues" with substances, as it had to do with direction of the music and lack of anything for him to play on.

Let's hope it is better than the dismal 'astronaut'. As a fan since 1982 I found that cd to be one of the most disappointing ever sad

In talking with alot of Duran fanatics, though im a fan im not in that class of following them around the world at shows and running websites for them. But in talking with them, most agree that Duran still has yet to do that "BIG" album, and BIG meaning beginning to end perfect record, not BIG selling. Most of them agree that Astronaut was better than some, it seemed to be an album of "singles". I was surprised to find many fans like me of POP TRASH, BIG THING and Medazzaland, 3 of their most unsuccesful and criticized records amongst fans. But many agree that Duran is still a band that needs to do a solid album and not be worried about singles. And 99.9% of them agree that Timbaland and JT are a HUGE mistake for them to work with, and they agree that the direction on this new record is what forced Andy out, total neglect of guitars on this new album.

To me POP TRASH is to them what Chaos and Disorder was to Prince, fucking great! So it didnt sell, big deal, do they really want to sell to 16 year olds at this point.

Agreed, amazing track, Playing with Uranium is great, Someone Else Not Me, a groundbreaking Video once again for them.

I liked PWU and a few others, but "Pop Trash" was their worst album to me. I loved Astronaut. I guess I'm not a big fan of that rock sound they were going for on that album.

I do have ALL their CD's though.....

Agree completely! I think this whole Timbaland/Timberflake thing is the biggest mistake of their careers.

Pop Trash, Big Thing and Medazzaland are all truly under-rated albums. (I would add Liberty to that list as well). Some great stuff that never really got the attention it deserved.

From DuranDuran.com:

"Contrary to recent reports in the press that Duran Duran have had to scrap all of the recordings for their upcoming album that Andy Taylor worked on, the four band members have confirmed today that no decisions have been made yet on which material is going to be included on this next record and which tracks may be held for release later down the line. Since Andy's departure late last year, the band have been in the studio working with producers Timbaland and Danja as well as Justin Timberlake. The album is expected later this summer."

John Taylor told fans that the new recordings are finished and the album could have a September release, but most of all that "it's going to be our best selling album, it's going to be huge, something that you've never heard from us."

These words do worry me. Im not impressed when an artist says "this is going to be our biggest seller", especially when a member left the band. Obviously i will buy it since i buy all they do, but IM really worrying about this album, this could be a disaster of 45-50 year olds trying to sell to 15 year olds.
