Apparently Tori debuted at #5 here.
From Billboard News
— Tori Amos’ “American Doll Posse” (Epic) debuts at No. 5 with 54,000, her sixth top 10 record. The artist’s last album, 2005’s “The Beekeeper,” also entered at No. 5 but with 83,000.

I guess this goes a long way to explaining her UK chart position:
From Everythingtori.com:
We’ve had a lot of people asking so we thought we would take the opportunity to clarify something. According to the UK Chart Regulations, the limited edition special package of American Doll Posse has been disqualified from the UK Charts. Apparently offering the fans 5 postcards is considered too much of a gift, and sales of the CD are ineligible. Tori made the decision not to compromise the packaging so the UK fans would receive the same presentation as the rest of the world. We appreciate your interest and concern for the situation. “Too much of a gift”? The sales of all the limited edition copies in the UK aren’t going to be counted because of what basically amounts to some extra album artwork? That seems pretty ridiculous to us. Come on, UK chart rulemaking people, these are copies of the ALBUM and they were SOLD. Count them, ferchrissakes. Update: for interest, under the very short section on “Permitted Free Gifts,” the official UK chart rules state: “Cards” to a maximum of 4. Card(s) must be contained within the format packaging and be 2 sided with no folds. Card(s) maybe printed on both sides. Maximum card size is dictated by the dimensions of the packaging they are to be contained within. ( Randy tells us they disqualified Beck’s last album too, because of stickers. Our jaws are on the floor.) Whomever came up with those rules needs to get to a proctologist immediately. The Undented Doctor diagnoses severe anal retentiveness in need of urgent emergency treatment.

No, but I got 'em saved for later. I heard Dragon sung by the kids (I've watched that link about 20 times ) before I even HEARD Tori's version and now it's all wrapped up in the song for me.

Has anyone tried rearranging the song order (blasphemy coming from me, I know) so that all the different girls' songs are grouped together? I'm wondering what the album would sound like as five separate EPs all thematically different. Of course I just read the Tori interview in the latest Billboard and she says the song order is very specific so it figures the one time ever that I want to change an album tracklisting is the one time the artist blatantly says that would be wrong.

Nathan...thanks so much for posting those videos of the kids choirs...I just bawled watching them...they are such beautiful children...and to watch Tori with them...it was just amazing. That God for that choir director...

ALBUM IS STELLAR! and thank God there are lyrics! And be quiet Godsseat! I almost didn't want to buy this once you invoked the "Beekeper". That album to me is the musical equivalent of flaked off paint chips from the kitchen window sill. Soggy Chips! I have no idea what people see in that thing. I really tried to do the lyrics on it but it didn't hit. Nathan, please give me a crash course on that album I love the whole concept of the 5 perspectives. Are these a new chast of characters or has Tori invoked any of them besides herself in her past work? Musically I find this album to be rich and complex and yet very comforting at the same time. I'll be spending lots of time with these ladies over the weekend in Miami. I'll post more thoughts when I get back I think she usually includes lyrics, fortunately. That's great that it was an instant fit for you. I know how she's pretty hit and miss for you. I don't know if I have any advice to school folks on Beekeeper. Even though I loved it straightaway and still do, I can see why many fans don't. It's mature, slow and highly produced - not exactly what most fans expect from her. Plus, it's really long and a lot of people don't have patience for that. This new one makes 3 double albums in a row. But I honestly think she does it because she's used to putting half her material out as b-sides. Now that she doesn't have singles anymore, she tries to get it all out in one place. I appreciate that. Many don't. I keep coming back to this album, which is a really good sign I think this will only grow on me better and better OK, do we know which girls sang which songs or is this a guessing game? And I don't know why Fat Slut creeps me out but it does. It really conveys the ugly part of being a fat slut. Not that I think fat sluts are bad or wrong but just the judgement from the outside to it, that part is so ugly and I feel that coming through big and loud in that song. I love fat sluts Don't want to screw them but even fat girls need love 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I'll have to check the actual disc when I get home. This is the first Tori album that doesn't feel like work when I listen to it (despite the complicated concept) in a very long time. grammar [Edited 5/14/07 14:05pm]
