Check this out! Tori meets the Harlem Children's Choir (PS22). She should seriously take these kids on the road!

I must admit, I'm very disappointed with how this has gone lately.

The album's been out nearly a week and no one's talking about it. It sucks to be just about the only one here obsessed with it.

hrmph

I miss Mike Matronik!

Amazing, huh? I hope something comes of their meeting. I would pay good money to see them perform together.

I love how they bring out the child part of her songs and it brings a whole new resonance to have them sing words like "Not Charlie Brown..." I wanna see a whole concert! bawl

There's one particular song that I love, but I've mostly been listening to it at work so I still have to untangle which songs have which titles. I've only heard it a few times so far.

I know, right? I watched "Not The Red Baron" too and it's just insane. These songs work so well in this choir's hands. I know nothing about these kids, but just watching them sing so passionately and without any self-consciousness is almost as moving as the songs themselves. Tori just does something to people and it's wonderful to see it through children as well. This teacher has definitely taken a risk by exposing his students to her music, but obviously it's been wonderful for them. I can't believe how much this is affecting me too. Love it!

The album would have charted better if she named it 'British Doll Posse'.

I could only find the time to listen to the album once so far. Judging the music only, it's awesome. I haven't had an opportunity to figure out who sings what or look at the lyrics yet. I need to spend more time with it, but with my shows this week and the other new releases to which I've been devoting time, it's difficult.

Today was supposed to be Amy Winehouse day, but I gave her a break and listened to ADP again. And again, just going by the music, it's fantastic. As for the songs individually, there are five I love, a lot I like, and five about which I feel indifferent. The only one I kinda don't like is Pip's "Fat Slut".

and thank God there are lyrics! clapping lol

And be quiet Godsseat! lol I almost didn't want to buy this once you invoked the "Beekeper". That album to me is the musical equivalent of flaked off paint chips from the kitchen window sill. Soggy Chips! lol I have no idea what people see in that thing. I really tried to do the lyrics on it but it didn't hit. Nathan, please give me a crash course on that album lol

I love the whole concept of the 5 perspectives. Are these a new chast of characters or has Tori invoked any of them besides herself in her past work? Musically I find this album to be rich and complex and yet very comforting at the same time. I'll be spending lots of time with these ladies over the weekend in Miami. I'll post more thoughts when I get back smile

I think she usually includes lyrics, fortunately.

That's great that it was an instant fit for you. I know how she's pretty hit and miss for you.

I don't know if I have any advice to school folks on Beekeeper. Even though I loved it straightaway and still do, I can see why many fans don't. It's mature, slow and highly produced - not exactly what most fans expect from her. Plus, it's really long and a lot of people don't have patience for that. This new one makes 3 double albums in a row. But I honestly think she does it because she's used to putting half her material out as b-sides. Now that she doesn't have singles anymore, she tries to get it all out in one place. I appreciate that. Many don't.

It's actually the album I was expecting after Pele. It seemed like the natural way to go. Still, while stylistically similar to BFP it has a character all of its own.
Of course, I was nicely surprised when she dabbled with electronica on Choirgirl and then more so on Venus, but I don't consider that genre to be where her greatest strengths lie, so it's good (for me, at least) to see her getting back to what she does best. Good stuff.

I can see what you're getting at.

It does seem like if she'd put this out right after Choirgirl, it wouldn't be a jarring succession of albums at all.

This is very blood and guts Tori and I think just what the doctor ordered.
