We should burn a couple variations of the album broken down by character to see if we come up with some insight. I suggested something similar a few pages back. Even though it's totally impractical, I wouldn't mind seeing the album as five separate 3" CDs with each different character on them.

I feel like we are like Tori Freshmen and that we are going to graduate on Tori together . [Edited 5/16/07 12:09pm] I was hoping I was at least a sophmore by now.

I have made alternates of Pink, Pele, Choirgirl and Venus though and they came out really cool.
Maybe I'll try something with the new one tonight and post my results tomorrow.

Yeah. Plus, the running order in the promo for Under the Pink and the booklet for Choirgirl are completely different. They make for a cool listen. I like mixing the b-sides in too.

I know you're not asking me, but I think it's one of her very best songs. It's one of about 4 songs that made me a fan back in the day.

I'm listening to it now. I like it okay. But now I can see what you mean, it's really deep. (It's going to take me years to absorb everything on that comp). It makes me think of how her music has changed over the years. Her early work has such a purity and grandness to it, it's quite stunning. I love the later electrified stuff too, but there's something so remarkable about that early sound. It has a tautness and I love the power of the orchestral elements.

I absolutely agree with you To me, that song is breathtaking both in musical composition and lyrical content. Especially those lyrics....some kind of touch is better than none, even upside down.... To be honest, I'm still digesting the first disc. I like to move through that stuff from one disc to the next, moving on when I'm familiar with it. Ultimately I need to just get all her old albums and really dive in head first 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

The purity in the sound of her first album is what totally grabbed me. Back in 1992 I had ordered 'Little Earthquakes' from one of those music clubs along with Sarah McLachlan's 'Solace' and Alison Moyet's 'Hoodoo'. They all arrived together and I listened to all three concurrently. Tori blew those other two albums away so badly that I quickly got rid of them. I was so moved by the innocence that I heard on that first listen that for awhile I changed my attitude and outlook on life in general to reflect that. I blame Tori for my total dislike of Sarah McLachlan.

I went home last summer and it was an emotional time for me and I had a rental car with a great stereo system and drove around and around playing Under The Pink. I just have to say it was pure bliss. Pure, pure bliss. I think it's funny you have to get rid of albums you don't like, like they're contaminated. I just leave them on the shelf.

OK, I have to admit that I have actually snapped CDs in half at the disgust that they would even be in my collection But mostly shit I don't like that I bought just sits there. maybe I can have 2 sections. Storage for the shit I don't care for and the rest on my, well I don't have shelf space right now. Music lovers would faint straight out at the state of my music collection. all over the place.
