From WAR to the LowriderBand support it's OG members

I think Prince is a genius that's who!
We all know that he is the epitomy of a genius whan it comes 2 music.
But, lest we forget that he got out of his slave contract by, scrawling
SLAVE across his face and changing his name to an unpronouncable symbol.
He did it and he outsmarted a corporation run by theives and carpetbaggers.
There is a famous group called, "WAR."
The original members were cheated out of their "CREATIONS" "by similar
people.
WE as true believers in Righteousness have an opportunity to get in
on the ground floor of a new position. We can join their site and communicate our views
not to mention they have discussion boards. Lets help out a bunch of regular "VATOS" who happen to be musicians like ourselves, who are down to earth FUNKY!
The Original members belong in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame along side our man Prince!
But, since a carpetbagger now owns the rights to their music, they are not eligible.
That is an injustice and it is not right! Investigate if you need to but, it is true.
Lets voice our opinions about people who think they can buy talent, dedication and fame.

Musicians are not businessmen, they are ARTISTS who CREATE masterpieces.
Listen to the discs "All Day Music", The World is a Ghetto, Deliver the Word, Platinum Jazz, why Can't We Be Friends, Eric Burdon Declares WAR, Outlaw and Anthology and decide for yourself.

Hey bro! My all all time favorite band. biggrin

I'm with you 100 percent. The majority of the original members of WAR were stripped of their right to use the name in a dispute in federal court and it's a damn shame. They deserve to be in the RRHOF. Read this and weep...

http://lowriderband.com/l...oc_275.pdf

At this point their Hall Of Fame status is uncertain. I have written the HOF to inquire about getting them inducted. So far no response, but I will not give up! They now tour under the name Lowrider Band and they're still kicking ass and takin' names. I've met the guys several times and they're really cool and down to earth. cool They deserve the support of real music lovers.

I remember when Prince booked WAR to play 3121 a couple of months ago. Only one original member currently plays with them so I feel he booked the wrong guys. The heart and soul of WAR is with the Lowrider Band. Again, damn shame.
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Yeah, I know the guys that tour under the name "WAR" they seem to be okay guys.
Lonnie is the superstar, Tex left, Fernando is the sax/flute player, Pancho plays bass, Stuart is on guitar, Sal on the drums (really nice guy) and Marcos on congas (another nice guy. I have nothing against any of those guys and I like them but they are guns for hire. They are competent musicians and do a good job. they are just not the guys from the records except of course for Lonnie.

Tex and Sal did the peace sign are on the Peace Sign album and were on their 1994 tour for the album. Sal is amazing and so is Tex. I just believe that the rest of the original players deserve credit and respect for the music that they created. I feel a little bad for pushing for posting so many WAR topics on the old site (NPGMusic Club). I really did not know the whole story until after the site closed. I have communicated with Harold Brown a few times thru email and that's how I found out that he was still playing with the other guys (Howard Scott, BB Dickerson and Lee Oskar). I love their music and I wish I could help them.

Texie is gone? eek He was great but he was no Lee Oskar. I've been in contact with a couple of the guys recently and hopefully I'll hook up with them in Cali this summer.

Like you, I agree the guys currently using the name are good musicians. I saw them live back in '04 but IMO Howard, Lee, Harold and BB maintain the spirit of the group name or not.

I'm a big time war fan. I remember the beef they had about the use of the name WAR years ago. It's a shame this has to drag on. That was a whole lotta talent that new how to "Get Down". Howard Scott was living here in Arlington, Texas for a while (he may still be). I heard him on (i believe )Millie Jackson's evening drive radio show, a couple of years ago. He was talking about what he was up to at the time,..War and new music ventures.

I agree with you guy's. They deserve to be inducted in the RRHOF as WAR.

Now i gotta go make "Southern Part of Texas" rotate.

thumbs up! I can dig it. WAR gets love around here. thanks for that link.. you lead me to a pot of Old Gold on that Youtube page .. I jam at least one cut off of WAR Live every other week. I remember hearing stories of how Lee Oskar would be on stage while the other band members took a break and he would just blow the hell out the harp.

Don't get me started on Lee Oskar, I've witnessed what you mentioned up close and personal many times...dude blows me away! He dropped one of his harps one night when I was standing right beneath him and snatched it back with his foot. lol I would've given it back, I swear!

The WAR Live Cd stays in my player, I love Sun Oh Son with the long intro.

Here's another clip...enjoy.

If I saw this thread back in 1994, I would've been all over. I still respect the band and I'll never forget the impact they had on as a kid back in that time. But I've moved on to other kinds of music now. Maybe I'll re-discover them again soon, but until then,.....shrug

I just want to thank all of who have responded to this thread.
I know people are lied to and cheated everyday and the majority
of those people do not have a forum to express their point of view.
This is a grassroots response to injustice.
Thanks for your support.
