I thought today's show was great! I have been recording the episodes from my ABC affiliate, that airs Soul Train at 1:00 a.m. Apparently they had a problem with their feed, because after the first 35 minutes, they abruptly aired a commercial and picked up the remainder of the show with an episode from last season. Then when it was time for the credits, they showed the ending of last week's Donna Summer episode. It was a crazy mess! Glad I could get the last half from WGN.

Looks like the 3-17 episode will be from June 1984 with the Dazz Band & Run D.M.C.

In case anyone was concerned, as I type, this episode is airing on NY's WPIX (3 am Sat. night/Sun morn) despite what someone else said in another thread about the station dropping it.

I just noticed Jeffrey dancing to That's The Way I Like It, before he turned around to reveal his name on the back of his red sweater.

This episode just made me think about how the Jacksons popularized the trend for family bands. The Sylvers were fun to watch perform, so many of them to see! I'm tryin' to think of the last family band in R&B before the trend started to fizzle out . . . .DeBarge maybe?

I watched the show and got angry. My generation has screwed things up! If you watch current Soul Train, it's pathetic. There's no dancing and the music is horrible.

it sucked that both performances weren't live...i would've loved to see billy preston play sans lip-synching, man. sad the sylvers were pretty decent too...it was funny, don was talking to foster like, "so you're 13 now?" the brotha looked like he was about 9 or 10 instead. giggle

when that south shore commission joint came on i was groovin...i love "we're on the right track". dancing jig

lol ...and I found it by error..I swear when I saw that clip of her, automatically I thought about her first role in Spike Lee's movie. He discovered her at some dance contest at a club, or so the story goes, but you'd be amazed at who you find in some of these soul train clips, I believe "Shabadoo" the famous dancer who did "Lock" dancing during the break dancing days was in one of those clips too. But I have to say the clothes worn during those days like the bell bottoms, clonky and wedgy shoes, hot pants, balloon pants, the super-fly pimp outfits are hilarious, but at the same time ya gotta love it!

yeah that was a gem from way back. funny soul train of the seventies I thought had a lot of funky groups on there. it would be nice to see them get to those episodes.
Does anyone remember those songs that billy preston did? has anyone spotted a celeb besides vivica fox on soul train?. the sylvers were awsome. their steps were on point. cool

This episode was excellent. I really was feeling that James Brown track Super Bad, Super Slick.

Did anyone notice how high Billy Preston was? Man, he was playing with his nose like crazy. Cocaine really does kill.
