Dweezil Zappa

Why is Dweezil so greatly ignored when it comes to music? I got into him in a very odd way. I was watching Duckman and I went to go check who did Ajax's voice and low and behold, it was Frank Zappa's kid. After that, I got to listen to his comedy bit "Dick Cinnamon" and I was hooked. Anyone else like the D man?

Dweezil Zappa is one of my favorite guitarists. I actually dug that "Happy Hour" show, 'cause you know he would be playing some smokin' solos. Plus, those oh-so-hot dancers, including Staci Flood, made it must-see tv for me razz

Getting back to the music, I just think that a lot of Dweezil's music doesn't get taken seriously because of the goofy image he and his brother have cultivated over the years. Most of their songs don't exactly scream "radio hit", and I've always wondered if Dweezil was seen by many as a Van Halen clone, being as EVH is one of his biggest influences. It seems that in the past year, however, he's come into his own with the tour covering/honoring his father's music. There's a lot of concert footage on youtube.

Anyway, Dweezil Zappa rocks and he and Lisa Loeb - another razz - made a cute couple...

I bought 1 Dweezil cd. It didn't blow me away. It's good but not great in my opinion. His father was more talented.

You must check out any of the Zappa plays Zappa snippets on the net or youtube and you will see what a monster guitarist he has become.

I saw him in NYC for ZPZ and he got a standing ovation on the 3rd song 1st set Florentine Pogen, for 3 mins and they had to put the house lights on. Not too mention he didn't tap on solo the whole night. When was the last time you saw that in NYC?

He spent 3 years learning more guitar techniques including his dad's chicken and spider picking technique. He also transcribed tons of keyboard and marimba lines to guitar which are nearly impossible to play.

This guy deserves major respect!
Music is the best...

He perhaps needs to decide if he's going to be an FZ clone (which he probably knows he can't be) and drag his dad's legacy around the world, or his own man.

The latter is harder work, coming out from a great artist parent's shadow and showing 'Frank was him', I am me'. Dweezil may be a good lead guitar player, but that was just the tip of the iceberg for his dad.

But, as Frank said, 'You are what you is, and that's all it is.' smile
