Simply Amazing, i remember as if it was yesterday, i think i own all the songs. Its just so great to see the diversity, and we should also remember those were ACTUALLY SINGLES, vinyl and Cassette, airplay was not counted that heavy back then.

nod Yep. "Don't Dream It's Over" was #1 in airplay but Capitol thinks it lost a shot at the #1 overall spot because it wasn't titled "Don't Dream It's Over (Hey Now)." Apparently, some people couldn't find it in the stores.

48 52 Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey

THE only rap song in the Top 40 at that moment! It goes to show us all that neither rap or hip-hop was taking over the charts yet. And the few rap songs that did had to be a big hit at the parties.

Not to mention Cyndi!

If you don't have Sirius, you're really missing out. Every weekend, they pick a year in the eighties and run down the Top 40 for the current week. It's awesome but during the early eighties, tends to be kind of stale (lots of Christopher Crossish songs...just not as hip!). It's hosted by Nina Blackwood. I look forward to it every weekend. I mean, as cool as it is to hear memorable hits by eighties favorites, it's really cool to hear not only one hit wonders but rare songs that hit the Top 40 that you never hear anymore.

It was just an amazing time period. Just the fact that you had, Kool and the Gang,Lionel,Aretha,U2,Beastie Boys,Fleetwood Mac etc... all mixed up and in the top 40 is how it should be. Its funny how many people just make fun of the 80's and dismiss it musically, and yet vh1 always is running some 80's show, and Sirus has tons of 80's shows, and all of a sudden everyone is looking for that sound when they "sample" and get their "beats".

The even greater thing is how many of those artists still exist today, still record, still play shows, regardless of charts or media. It also reminds me how much i used to like looking at a chart, to see a song rising the charts that i really liked, songs dont move up like that anymore, today you debut and then fall, wheres the mystery and fun in that?

What this also makes me remember looking at this chart, The Cover Girls SHOW ME, that single took forever just to get to 46, i believe it peaked at about 41 and it took months to get there. That Album had 5 charted singles, and it was the first REAL Indie album to have 5 charted singles ever, and that still holds to this day, FEVER RECORDS never had a distributor it did it all on its own, and still does to this day.
