Janet - Damita Jo CCCD

so I bought the CD the day it was released and it is all "Copy Controlled" styley.

But I was in the store today and I noticed Damita Jo was there for $9.99!

The front had a promo sticker which made me look at it: said it contained "I Want You" and "All Nite".

And when I looked at the back... I noticed NO "COPY CONTROLLED" info at all.
eek

I didn't realize this edition came out. The store was closing and already had some other stuff to buy so I put it back but damn.

I wonder what else they changed on it, or if it is merely an edition for the people who complained their CDs wouldn't play in their car decks and such.

confuse

Like I made sure the Japan tracks weren't on it.

But at a glance, I forgot to see if maybe it was a "clean version" now that I think of it.

You're in Canada, right? Maybe it's a US import. I'm sure mine isn't copy controlled, and I don't think I've heard of any US copies having it on them.

Most recently, I bought Van Hunt's On The Jungle Floor as Copy Controlled which means if u try to tell your computer to export a .wav of a certain track it will rip it with a bunch of skips all over the place... to stop pirating. neutral

But mostly it just sucks because I want to include one Van Hunt track on a mixtape or something and it stops me from making even one copy. mad

The Copy Controlled software installs itself and gives you an option of ripping the songs in .wmv Windows Media format I think, but who wants THAT? confuse

Some people said they can hear clicks when they are playing their Copy Controlled CDs on their plain ol' stereo systems. eek

I remember I tried to play Damita Jo in the CD-ROM at work in 2004 and it read it as having only 2 tracks or something, and stopped playing after a few seconds.

Messed up.

This is very funny... hmmm

I got all the Eurythmics Remasters Copy Controlled. I supposed I couldn't make a copy, so I never tried, until I wanted to make a compilation of various artists and wanted to include "Would I Lie to you". I couldn't find my "old '80's" copy, so I tried and I extracted it from the cd: NO PROBLEM!!!

I don't think the Copy Controlled exist. The only thing I've noticed is that they put all the tracks in a single folder (on a normal cd the tracks are directly shown), so they are impossible to see at a first glance.

You just have to go to the preferences of your burner software and "see the cd content" and VOILA! biggrin

Sorry
Too many instructions...

BTW, The same happens to me with Damita... No problem at all.

I've always used Windows (Still XP now) and NEVER had a problem ripping copy controlled CDs.

Now I always use iTunes that lets you rip them into acc, mp3, wav...extensions.
The only thing with Copy Controlled CDs is to make sure you place a tick next to 'Use error correction when reading Audio CDs' smile

I think it's bigger in Canada because for awhile (and maybe still) Canadian courts and lawmakers wouldn't recognize that filesharing was illegal copyright violation.

It is illegal in the US, but for awhile (and again, may still be) was perfectly legal in Canada.
