That's a good question, I would agree with Lo-fi for sure! To me, it is instrumental hip-hop, but alot of that gets filed under "electronic". If you think of DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, Avalanches.. they are all placed under "electronic" but we know the true spirit is hip-hop. Wal Martian is a DJ too, so if you can think about how a Fatboy Slim put beats together, and why the music might represent dancefloor styles... All I know is that right now Canadian college radio is eating up Wal Martian's album Martian Law and every kind of show is playing him, cracking the main (All Genres) charts in every city. http://www.myspace.com/walmartian Ah, okay. Yeah, it sounded like something that was glitch-oriented. Hip hop gets a bad rap a lot of times. The ethos of hip hop is clearly in that track along with the artists you mentioned. It is electronic, too, but you're definitely right about that. I feel hip hop get shortchanged a lot when people don't acknowledge stuff like this, or even Technotronic's hip house work as hip hop. But the hip hop establishment isn't as quick to vocally embrace these types of genres so the lens gets skewed. I know hip hop is much more than some shit that's currently on Viacom or ClearChannel or Oprah's Town Hall meetings.

To me it is hip-hop because it is born out of the culture of diggin' for records, but that's dance/DJ culture too. Wal Martian Martian Law covers alot more than boom bap, that's for sure.
