"Wicked" Pickett and Betty Wright.

I thought I knew all the old skool RnB groups, but I have actually never heard of the Modulations.

That's because, back then, there was music fast enough to shake the fat off their asses. Fast music doesn't exist anymore and today's kids have the asses to prove it. lol

I am noticing the same thing. I was watching with my daughter getting her used to hearing some different kind of music, and I don't recognize many of the seventies music that has been played or performed in that time period. I thought that the songs on soul train co-incided with what was on the airwaves. I think they are giving the less known shows to the audience. last week was decent.

I saw it on my local channel Saturday evening. I thought it was much better than last week but it was still a disappointment to me. They are too far back in the 1970s. I had never heard a lot of those songs either. They probably were pretty popular at the time but not ones that lots of people remember over the years.....kinda like we remember "She's Just A Groupie" by Bobby Nunn but a lot of people younger than us wouldn't remember it because it wasn't played a lot on the radio years later.

That's why I say, play some late 70s episodes. That's when I first got into music hot and heavy and remember everything.

falloff lol lol andy you are so vain.. lol. no but seriously, I think it could be the type of film/camera they used too to elongate it somehow, because everytime I see a 70s Soul Train show, everyone looks long and lanky.

I agreee with you and SoulAlive...I didn't recognize those songs, not to mention I never heard of "The Modulations". I felt like they were dancing to "movie theme music" during that episode.

A lot of folks wore high waisted pants and high healed platform shoes back then. That would definately make legs look longer and skinnier than they really are. lol

I waited for Sister Sledge also and just knew it was going to be a 1979 episode because I had always thought "We Are Family" was their first song. When the episode first came on and I saw the stage with the railroad tracks on the wall, I knew it wasn't 1979 and was disappointed. However, after watching the show, I enjoyed that episode from start to finish.

yeah I thought we are family was their first also. but I ended up liking the show as well. Now they have had billy preston repeat shows twice and I haven't heard a couple of his other hits on either one. he jammed though. I liked the one hit he performed.

I'm not that familiar w/Betty Wright(other than 'aint nothin goin on but the rent'), but after watching that episode I am in love w/her! Both songs kicked ass and she was groovin the whole time. This wont make me buy her whole catalogue, but Ive def. got a new found respect for her.

actually,"ain't Nothing Going On But The Rent" was recorded by Gwen Guthrie wink

Betty Wright is known for hits like "Clean Up Woman" (1971) and "Tonight Is The Night" (1974).The latter song was recorded live in 1978 and became a hit all over again, with it's long spoken intro.

Sister Sledge had hits dating from 1969. It wasn't until after hooking up with the Chic organization that they achieved major success.

I really feel that ST is trying to expose us to different old school music. We have all fallen victim to the marketing music machine by listening to the same old school music. We all know Teddy P., the Jacksons, Barry White, etc., but not many of us remember the Modulators or are familiar with the work of Betty Wright.

I wish they would keep up the best of episodes, but I hear a new season is about to start.

dang I hate that that will happen. yeah that is true about sister sledge as far as when their success took place. but heck I didn't know they were around before the family song. I hope they give us a few well known seventies shows before they pull the plug though, we haven't seen performances of our fav hits on the show

For those of you talking about Sister Sledge....a bit of possible good news for you. Looks like on April 28th there is going to be another episode with Sister Sledge airing. Looks like it is from 1/28/78 and also features Brick. Could it be they recorded "We Are Family" earlier than 1979, but it just hadn't taken off yet?

Maybe the classic episode on May 5 will be from 1979....looks like the past few weeks, every episode has been from a different consecutive year.

Brick will be performing "Dusic" so it will be whatever year that song came out. I don't know what Sister Sledge will be performing but I doubt it will be "We Are Family".

Dammitt, I want some episodes from 1978 and 1979! Remember the "History Book" segment a few weeks ago with Frankie Valli performing "Grease"? I want some stuff from that era.

By the way David, next weekend you need to check and see what channel "Soul Train" will be coming on your local channel because that damn ball game will be on WGN again.....damm them! lol
