Top 3 Beatles albums I've been a Beatles fan for a long time- but i don't have many of their albums. (I have 2 plus tons of mix CDs). I'd like to know the top 3 Beatles albums you think I schould get, besides Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper (I already know I want those). I would definetly appreciate some imput. Thank you. Add Revolver to the 2 CinisterCee mentioned and the 2 you're already getting, and you are in for one hell of a ride, my friend... [Edited 4/12/07 12:56pm]

In my opinion, just remember that White Album is two discs long, and you can get into Revolver/Rubber Soul later.

Is Abbey Road the one where they are walking across the zebra crossing.? My Dad had that album when I was young, and probably it's an enquired sound but it sounded awful then. I think I need to go back to listen to it, to see if things have changed. I Just personally believe that like Elvis, the Beatles are overrated and over-hyped.

So, tznekbsbfrvr, the consensus is you MUST get:
Rubber Soul Revolver Magical Mystery Tour White Album No way around it.

damn if i were pressed to axe one of the two, i'd hold off on rubber soul. but i always think of those two albums as a matched pair for some reason. revolver is more of a swingin' good times groovy austin powers album to me, even though it's got some of the beginnings of their dark/moody stuff on it (though rubber soul does too, i 'spose). hell, just get em all.

That's what George Harrison said, but Revolver always seemed much more mature & weird to me. They're from the same year, though. My Legacy

The early ones are great, but not quite as essential. I'm pretty fond of A Hard Days Night. With the Beatles is better than Please Please Me. Help is better than Beatles For Sale. Actually Past Masters is a good one because it has the hit singles, which weren't on any albums. In the end there's only, what, 12-13 albums, and I need them all. My Legacy

The Red & Blue albums are great compilations. I think a lot of us grew up on them. I like Let It Be...Naked a lot. The sound quality is great, and they made it flow better. My Legacy

I have been a huge Beatles fan since I was little...Come to think of it they were my first fave band...either The Beatles or Jackson 5. Either way...my top 3 change as much as my top 3 Prince albums.
Right now its: The White Album Revolver Beatles for Sale...before y'all start thowing things at me...I was never a big fan of the early 64 stuff up until about 10 years ago when a coworker played this album at work all the time. The next thing I know I am loving the thing as much as any of the others. There is a darkness to this album that foresees Help or Rubber Soul. No Reply, Baby's in Black, I'm a Loser... I think it gets lost in the shuffle since its part of the Beatlemania era but once you strip that away and just concentrate on the songs...its a great one. Well, at least I think so.

Rubber SOul- this is when the Beatles grew Up
Magical Mystery Tour- Its funny when a movie sucks, the music in it is usually the best an artist ever does (example GLITTER) Abbey Road- Every band should go out on this kind of High Note "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Guys, Abbey Road and SPLHCB are already on the list. The three I'd add to it:
1. Rubber Soul 2. Past Masters, Vol. 1 3. Past Masters, Vol. 2 (song for song, my favorite Beatles album) "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Might as well add Let It Be to the list. Two Of Us, Dig A Pony, I Me Mine, Let It Be, I've Got A Feeling, One After 909, For You Blue and Get Back are all great songs. The rest I usually skip. I like the raw version of The Long And Winding Road from Let It Be Naked. Phil Spector butchered the version on the original Let It Be album.

I'm going to have to vehemently disagree with that (and I realize I am probably in the minority). Paul has said over the years that Spector's strings made it sound cheesy and schmaltzy. Um, Paul? It's a cheesy, schmaltzy song. You should know -- you wrote it! That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. I think it's a outstanding, well written song, but the strings fit it perfectly IMO. I completely agree! I love the strings on that track. Most of the time I'll argue in favour of understatement, whether in vocals or arrangements or what have you, but this is one song where I'm more than happy to wallow in the bombast.
