I just heard it. How is it more melodic than anything he's ever done? I hope this is not the artistic direction he's interested in. It's the same pocket, the same vamp aesthetic, the same well layered vocals (that are ALWAYS unintelligible) - I remember reading awhile back that Questlove was saying that if you didn't get Davis' On The Corner or Brian Wilson(!)'s SMiLE,, among other lankmark albums, you wouldn't be able to get D'Angelo's new record -

Hmm, it just dawned on me that Questlove uttered these words a couple of years ago and that perhaps D'Angelo has indeed changed course(s).


So, I'm restoring my faith in Archer's creative vision.

I need to find a way to hear this song. It's been too long without hearing from D.

I've heard the song and while I like the music, I don't know what in God's name D'Angelo's saying. It has to be a demo. It's as if he's still in the process of putting it all together. At least I hope that's what it is. If the rest of this project is anything like this, then I have no idea how I'm going to take it. Cross that bridge when I get to it I guess.

Just as Voodoo (imo) was very different from Brown Sugar I am hoping James River (or whatever it's suppose to be titled) is different than both.

D'angelo seems to play it safe with the mid-tempo songs something diff would be to release a up tempo track as his first single. I would say go with a collab w/either Timberland or Dr. Dre
