Songs whose points finally hit you... I caught Ben Folds Five's "Brick" on the radio Friday and heard most of it, I think, for the first time.
About midway through, around the time that "they call her name" and he's buying her flowers, I realize the point of the storyline. I know this makes me president of the last to know club, but it's set me wondering about other songs that are out there whose meanings have taken forever to catch up with me. About 10 years after "Macho Man" dropped, I picked up on the irony... But, hey, I was a kid when the Village People were popular. title/verb agreement edit... ... er, twice... You really had no idea until now? Seriously though, you probably just never paid attention to it. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

But, I listened to the verses while preparing to walk into a store Friday, and it clicked.
