Do you know her rendition of "That old devil called love"? That`s another great one by her, as well as "All cried out" I have all her albums I was a fan of hers before she went solo I don`t have any of her albums yet I can imagine "Alf" and "Raindancing" are quite good, but what do you think of "Essex" and "Hoodoo"? "Only you" is one of my favorite love songs "All i needed was the love you gave"

I love all her albums though I prefer her pop phase (the 4 albums you mentioned).
Alf and Raindancing sound too eighties, too euro-pop, especially Alf which is absolutely no problem to me of course (I bought them all on date of release). I understand the younger generations find that sound excessive though. Hoodoo is her most adult sounding album , blues, gospel, but also pop . It's excellent and maybe the first to start with if you're American. Essex is a return to her brighter sound of the 80s. Great too. Her 2 XXI century albums are too serious. Don't misunderstand me. They're excellent. Probably her best, objectively speaking where her voice sounds best than ever, but they require you to be in the right mood so they get the lest plays. Anyway, as soon as she releases new music I'll be there in line to buy it.

I think you`re right about the later album (Voice & Hometime)...
I haven`t heard them, but i can`t seem to get into many of these kind of albums (standards). I wouldn`t call them depressive, but they tend to be a little too serious for my taste, if you know what i mean... I wish she could release her live version of "What becomes of the broken hearted" on cd one day. It`s from her "Live at the Dominion Theater", which is (as far as i know, only available on cassette). It`s one of the best things i`ve heard by her.. and btw, i`m not american
