From what I understand, they're are a collection of all the singles that were never on any of the official British album releases. Or another way to look at it... ...(would probably be easier if you had a set of these.) tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. They say it wasn't considered proper to put singles on the albums in England, making people buy the same songs twice (people bought lots of singles then). In America it was different and they butchered the original albums. My Legacy

Two Of Us, Dig A Pony, I Me Mine, Let It Be, I've Got A Feeling, One After 909, For You Blue and Get Back are all great songs. The rest I usually skip. I like the raw version of The Long And Winding Road from Let It Be Naked. Phil Spector butchered the version on the original Let It Be album.
I'm going to have to vehemently disagree with that (and I realize I am probably in the minority). Paul has said over the years that Spector's strings made it sound cheesy and schmaltzy. Um, Paul? It's a cheesy, schmaltzy song. You should know -- you wrote it! That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. I think it's a outstanding, well written song, but the strings fit it perfectly IMO. The strings I could live with, but he also tampered with the speed of the song to make it slower. I just think the untouched version has a nice soulful edge to it that was taken away when Spector got his mits on it. I see your point though.

Just to elaborate, when the Beatles discography was released on CD, they decided to only release the original British albums. That meant they had to find a way to release all of the non-album singles (including huge hits like "She Loves You," "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "I Feel Fine," "Day Tripper," "We Can Work It Out, "Rain," "Lady Madonna," "Hey Jude," and "Don't Let Me Down"). They ultimately decided to collect all of those singles on two albums. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

A Hard Day's Night
Help! Magical Mystery Tour coincidentally, their are all soundtrack albums. It seems their soundtrack albums are better than their regular studio albums. [Edited 4/13/07 3:43am]

That's what George Harrison said, but Revolver always seemed much more mature & weird to me. They're from the same year, though. No, Revolver is from '66. Despite what Harrison said in the Anthology I think they're 2 completely different albums. Revolver is more a predecessor of Sgt. Pepper, with the semi-psychedelic songs Tomorrow Never Knows (my alltime favourite), I'm Only Sleeping and She Said, She Said. Rubber Soul reminds me more of some parts of Help than Revolver. Anyway tznekbsbfrvr, just get The White Album and Revolver, if you like them you can get Magical Mystery Tour, wich is more a singles collection but a great one!

i'm loving all the conversation that's going on. so far... i'm hearing alot of votes for
Rubber Soul Revolver White Album I might decide to buy four(maybe A Hard Day's Night)....since I can't break up Revolver and Rubber soul. I always thought those 2 went together or something. Man, I cannot wait for my scholarship check to come in. And I have yet to buy the imported CDs of my fave Italian artists. Oh.... the troubles of a music lover.... Apart from 'Sgt Pepper' and 'Abbey Road', I would try 'Rubber Soul', 'Revolver' and 'The Beatles' ( aka 'The White Album').'Magical Mystery Tour' was not considered an album release in he UK by the band themselves and was issued as a double 7' EP in the UK in 1967 and an LP in the UK in 1976, however it does stand up as an excellent LP.

For me, they are as follows
1. Abbey Road 2. Let it Be 3. Revolver The "B" side of Abbey, has got to be the greatest B sides in history. From the first side to the last every song just flows.... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I might agree that the Revolver songs are all those things, but the bottom line for me is that the Rubber Soul songs are just better (IMO, of course). As good as Revolver is, I'd have to say it's easily the most overrated of their albums. And don't even get me started on "Yellow Submarine." I thought the "Love" version of octopuses garden was one of the best things on it I actually like it too. I just understand why others don't. But to me it's a classic children's song, and is way ahead of its time in terms of using outside sounds and going outside of Rock & Roll. Octopus' Garden just shows the greatness of the Beatles. It's not a tremendous song by itself, but they perform & arrange it so damn well it's become a classic. My Legacy
