AMERIE's "Gotta Work" now this is what SOUL should sound like The debate that many have is that AMERIE isnt a good singer, well my challenge is she is a good singer because she knows how to sing for her voice. Many have better voices but dont have a clue how to sing (fill in the name), but this new track is amazing, the best thing that i have heard from about 50 tracks that Amerie has been leaking through various sources and mixtapes. just listen her vocals, the sexy, rasp, its what SOUL is about, sould should not be slick and clean sounding, thats whats wrong with 90% of RnB today, production is cold and stale and too clean. This track that AMERIE has done will make the Cd that still doesnt have a US release date, but will be issued in other regions of the world between May8 and May 22nd, Ameries first start will be in the UK this coming week where she will make the promo rounds on tv music shows (yes they have them , but we dont) and a few concerts. And last but not least some say that the song "Gotta Work" sounds like Rich Harrison WRONG, the sound is Amerie's, she created it and he ran with it over to who had more money (knowles), thats why Harrison is no longer a part of Amerie's team. On this new album the producers are all pretty unknown and are different from track to track with the Executive being Amerie, thats how it should be, the days of one Producer NEED TO END in RnB. I am one of those who want to vomit all over this chick OK, first of all, she pulls a Michael Jackson. Anyone see a difference here?
And is she really capable of doing what it looks like is happening here: I detest this chick. I bought her first album based on the hype and was bored bored bored But I will admit "1 thing" is quite catchy and I love the hell out of that song I don't think anything else she's done is worth a damn. So now I'll probably check out this song, and / 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I like the LIVE feel the main thing i hate in rnb now is that no one is live at all, even artists who play arent live they are too produced and everything is clean and slick. I dont think the album is going to be issued here honestly, i know the label is saying a summer release but i dont see it happening, i think this is one that will just be released in every other market but here, the US market has lost its value at this point. I mean who knows with the US at this point with releases, RB females at this point like (Amerie,MYA,Teedra Moses) are all getting the "red headed step child" treatment from their labels, though MYA has a June 26th release date and is currently doing a House of Blues club tour with her band, this CD has been coming out since last summer, Amerie had tracks and was ready with this cd in 2006 also, and Teedra Moses, its really the same thing, the labels are screwing them because they dont know how to market them, because they really just have their own followings, labels are looking for 100,000 out of the box and they arent going to get that. amerie, is someone i can't take really seriously as an "artist". she has below average vocal abilities. yes, i know she's pretty but so what? is that enough to make someone a star?

Teedra Moses caught me by surprise. I liked her last album and saw she did some co-writing on Macy's new album. I was curious about her sophomore release but noticed she's been gettign the runaround too. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

These days it is. I think she has a horrible voice. The whole good voice bad voice thing is played out at this point. Bob Dylan cant sing, Tom Waits cant sing, 90% of RB males cant sing, Lloyd,Marques Houston, Ne-Yo etc and lets not talk about Ciara. So does Amerie have a good voice, not really, its not bad, Live its better than alot of singers at this point, my point is she knows how to SING, there are many with better voices that are BAD singers and i think we know who they are. And also why doesnt anyone question voices of males who have the "looks"? double standard once again. Omk but she wrotes all her music, is in charge of her career and now Produces her own records. So shes not artist because she doesnt have a good voice? So Bob Dylan isnt an artist?, Madonna isnt an artist? I don't think comparing Amerie to a Bob Dylan or a Tom Waits holds water. You're talking about two of America's greatest songwriters with timeless material. They play instruments and write their own material. The roles of a producer are a bit different - these artists are more self-sufficent, if you will. There's no reliance on beats/samples, etc. As far as singing is concerned, their vocals (or lack thereof) actually make them distinctive. The genre of music is also a great factor.
Besides, the whole aspect of their live performances differ greatly from the Amerie/Beyonce school of performing. They and cats like Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Segar - blue-collar rock guys like that - rely on the strength of their material when performing live. Amerie's material isn't conducive to standing in one place and keeping the crowd interested with just her voice/lyrics/songs. She needs the whole choreography/constant movement to keep the crowd into her show. Now, I can see more of a Madonna comparison, though I actually think Madonna's voice is stronger than Amerie's. And I don't think Madonna is much of a singer... My author page: https://www.amazon.com/au...eretttruth

So Bob Dylan isnt an artist?, Madonna isnt an artist? madonna is an artist because she knows how to work other angles like pushing people's buttons and creating controversy. she makes people think and so does bob dylan. i'm sorry amerie just doesn't do it for me vocally. she can slide by vocally and she has some cute catchy tunes but madonna or dylan she aint!

Soul already sounded like that when Sam & Dave did it, and without that sloppy gogo beat messing up the continuity. Musically, its just an interpolation. Vocally, this is not a shining moment for her. I think she can sing but this song is not the best showcase of her skills.

Vocally its finally good to hear someone actually singing in RB, instead of Layering their tracks with so much production they arent even singing anymore. You can easily tell this is a LIVE vocal and probably one take. Artists today like Beyonce,Mariah,Aguilera and 99% of RB and yes even PRINCE are just way to over produced with their vocals and their tracks are just too layered, can we just get some singing again? I don't know what R&B/Soul you're listening to. I hear artists really singing all the time. GTFOH with that 99% of R&B mess. Jaguar Wright, Lizz Wright, Angie Stone, Dwele, Anthony Hamilton, Anthony David, Raheem DeVaughn, Adrianna Evans, Yahzarah, Conya Doss, Vivian Green, Leela James, and many more are singing real soul. If you don't have a prerequisite that the artists you listen to look like a part of Mattel's "Dolls Of The World" collection, you can find some great soul by great singers out there. Amerie, Beyoncé, Nicole S., Christina A., etc. can all sing but they are more video stars than R&B. They are pop or at the very least, pop R&B. Real soul hasn't stopped and Amerie isn't making any strides in that department. I do like her voice, though. [Edited 4/13/07 9:32am]

[Edited 4/13/07 9:32am] Yeah and that 1% that you mentioned is what im talking about, I easily put Amerie in that category as I would put MYA and Teedra Moses, some people get confused when they see someone is attractive that they cant SING or have any control of their career. Amerie is far beyond Beyonce and Christina in the world of singing. Now i know people will disagree but until you see these artists and in clubs like i have seen Amerie, Mya and Teedra Moses and others like Javier and Raheem Devaughn. I was in the business a long time and one of the reasons i got out was because these artists werent helped by a label or even their own management. That 99% of RnB is accurate as i would say the same of the Genres of Rock and Pop are even worse. For every Leela James there are 100 Lloyds and Ne-Yo's, so do the math she is in the 1%. Look at the facts, Teedra Moses cant get her album out because her label wants her to change the image or bring in some name producers, Amerie has had to do this album underground and now only release it overseas, Mya has been getting shit from MOTOWN (which is the worst label) this album was done in mid 2006, but the label wants to wait so they can build a buzz. So yes they and the artists mentioned are all a 1% of RnB, sorry but its true, just like The Roots and Mos Def are the 1% of Rap. Production is what killed RnB, once LIVE music was taken out of RnB and Pharrell and Timbaland took over with beats, it was over. Even PRINCE who preached real Live Music back in 2004, came back in 2006 with the most UN-LIVE album ever, talk about a 360 and a change of heart. I mean there was a post here a few weeks back where someone was saying "where are the RnB bands" and yes Where are they?? Im talking bands, im not talking Pretty Ricky and b2K and shit like that, Im talking EWF and Commodores type band. So her oufits on a red carpet are SLUTTY, so Halle Berry and Jennifer Hudson who wear the same stuff are SLUTS too? Its amazing what we think is slutty, this is why we have things like the Don Imus incident because we stereotype someone because of clothing. Amerie is a 30 year old woman, i think we should be more concerned what a teen is wearing like Ciara. And that she is trying to get by on her looks, thats so funny, so that goes for EVERY artist that is half way decent looking, they are doing it on their looks and have no talent, lets just make sure thats across the board that statement. So the Beyonces and Janets and Prince's of the world are getting by on looks too? I said she was a pretty girl and defended her from a stupid Vibe article, MYa got a deal because of her looks? really i didnt know this, well she was signed as a dancer back in 1997 but dancing is not talent, and i have seen her live many times and she can sing and perform, Amerie the same thing. But hey if we are going to say that all females get signed for their looks dont draw lines, Diana Ross,Aaliyah, etc..And how come we dont point out any male artists, Justin, Usher,Ne-Yo being signed for their looks and having Mediocre talent. MY dissing of Sanjaya was saying that everyone praises AI for being a TALENT SHOW, ITS NOT, and him getting by shows it, its nothing to do with your talent, and lets be honest if he was a female pulling that shit with hair and looks his ass would be at home watching AI. Sorry But Amerie and Mya can sing, maybe not what want you wanna hear but they can sing, I have seen all three of them live (teedra,Amerie,Mya) and sorry they are way better SINGERS than say Beyonce, maybe they dont have her voice but they know how to SING there is a big difference.
