Austin Brown : the son of Rebbie Jackson

Austin Brown, known affectionately as “ Auggie ” by his family and friends, is the youngest child of Rebbie and Nathaniel Brown. Austin has pretty much stayed out of the spotlight in his childhood. He did go on tour with his mother in the late 90’s and he traveled along with 3T in Europe in 1997 during the Brotherhood tour. Auggie played instruments during several showcases of Rebbe in The States in 1998, but other than that, he did not make many appearances in video clips (except for 2300 Jackson Street) or shows like many of his cousins did. So he has been working on his musical skills in silence and surprised everyone when he signed with Midas Records in 2004, but switched labels in 2006 to Interscope Records.
For Austin, being of pop royalty is a responsibility, rather than a privilege; he has a lot to live up to – and knows it.
Austin will create a really off-the-wall style for his generation by taking the old school feel, updating it to today and reminding people that it’s OK to be musical, it’s OK to play instruments, it’s OK to love melodies, do harmonies and dance.
Austin has been writing and producing some tracks with childhood friend Brandon Howard (son of R&B vocalist Micky Howard), who has worked with Missy Elliott and Ginuwine. Other elements that will give the debut album its gleam is Austin’s instrumentation – guitar, piano, drums, bass, and percussion, making him one very busy artist in the studio. His debut album is scheduled for a release in 2007 at Interscope Records.

What type of music do you plan to perform and why?

The thing about my generation is that it has totally forgotten about making real music. I grew up playing five instruments. I’m going to use those abilities throughout my album. I really want people to understand it and I want to bring people back to the way music used to be performed. I’m doing most of the writing and producing myself, but I’m working with a few other producers too.

Good for him... it's appears that he has a good head on his shoulders and he's taken the time to hone his craft and not rush out with a cd because he's from music royalty..

I've heard he's pretty talented. Not surprisingly, given how artistic skill often runs in the family. I'm excited to hear what he can do.

Easy on the eyes too. Let's hope he lets himself stay that way.

The Jacksons' kids all seem to be balanced and talented. Randy's younger daughter is starting a career in music and his oldest is on the Disney Channel. Jackie's daughter is a model, I think

"How come there's no young Jacksons that wanna play Post-Punk, New Wave, or any kind of rock for that matter?"

Randy was the closest. I remember reading he wanted to do an all out rock LP in 1989 and his label said NO.

"because they are black"

..one of the dumbest, stupidest, racist and most assinine statements I've seen on the org since I've been here.

I certainly hope they were being ironic.

I mean, look a MJ and his collaborrations with Slash, Mick Jagger, and Eddie Van Halen. Not to mention the Jacksons "Victory" album. There was some rockin' tracks there like "Torture" and "State of Shock".

Man, the ig'nance of some folks. rolleyes
