Black tie white noise-David Bowie Do you like this album?
I certainly LOVE it! It's a very strong album, sounds like a revamped, updated Let's dance for the early 90's. I particulary liked because back in the early 90's the pop scene was dominated by grunge and alt-rock, and Bowie delivered an album that proved that in the early 90's there was still a chance to dance and be smooth I know that many fans hate this album and curse it as a commercial and artificial effort, but even those fans had to admit that the album is really strong, full of neo-classics: The Wedding, You've been around, the title track, the cover of Nite flights, Pallas Athena and probably his best song of the 90's, Jump they say! Ahh, if he only had listened to Rodgers: Lucy can't dance should have been included! It would have been a NÂș1 on the dance charts!

I loved that single "Jump, They Say" and the video was great as well. Loved
those girls staring into the telescopes. Although it's certainly not my fav Bowie album it does have some strong and nice songs on it. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

i like a handful of songs on it, but i think there's a lot of boring filler on it too. 'jump they say' is one of my bowie faves, and i like the morrissey cover even though i hate morrissey.

There are some really good songs on it... Jump They Say, You've Been Around, Miracle Goodnight, Nite Flights are all excellent.
I loathe the title track, though.

Jump They Say is an awesome song, it's s one my favorite David Bowie songs and videos. I think the Black Tie White Noise album is good but slightly over produced, and fairly patchy. But the album was a welcome return after Tonight (1984) and Never Let Me Down (1987), which are Bowie's only rubbish album, well I though Hours (1999) was crap but every Bowie album always has a brilliant song or two on it.
Black Tie White Noise, Miracle Goodnight, Night Flights, You've Been Around I Feel Free are other songs on the Black Tie White Noise that I really like. But Jump They Say is the best song by far on the album. I'd say Black Tie White Noise is a better album that Let's Dance that Bowie also produced with Nile Rodger's, dispite Let's Dance's classic singles on that album it was a very safe album. I think Bowie's best album post Scary Monsters (1980) is the 1.Outside (1995) album. I love David Bowie's music, the man so far ahead of his time. He's pure genius.

The album has a pretty horrible sound all throughout. Not sure about Rodger's production on this one, altough certainly the good songs on it are definitely good songs.
Sure it's an improvement on his last two solo albums, but then again Buddha Of Suburbia was done during the same era and it's a considerable improvement over Black Tie White Noise's sound.

I actually like the sound and production of BTWN.. it has a very unique vibe to it. I think the problem with it is half of the material is strong, the other half is filler.
I do like Buddha of Suburbia, but I don't consider it any great leap forward from BTWN. To me, that didn't come until "Outside".

Hummm, there's not too much filler: the only weak songs for me are Don't let me down and down , Looking for lester and The wedding Pt.2, but I find them strong enough so I don't skip them. The production is UNIQUE! I haven't listened any album with that sound, it sounds like the latter 80's but also like the year 2084 By the way, Buddha of Suburbia isn't as great as I thought...there are some unlisteneable songs and the production is somewhat too adult-contemporary; the best songs are the instrumentals, they would have fitted very well on Lodger...

I have to give BTWN a thumbs up. It has a very direct feel to it, stepping away from the artistic gimmickry (or obscurity) that has been a Bowie staple from day one. There are some great songs, there's filler too...but they reside together in a cohesive style. It has a contemporary sound that isn't so contemporary that it's pigeonholed to the time of its release.
But mostly, it was a sign that a very dark, dessicated (though occasionally entertaining) period was behind him. He was beginning to see the difference between popular and relevant. "I got the devil in me, girl." - 'John the Baptist', Afghan Whigs

Buddha almost IS a masterpiece anyway, Anx. Half of BT/WN is good to great, half is filler. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. The only song I don't like from this album is Looking For Lester...
I love the sound, the arrangements (mostly the horns and the huge drum-sound) and Bowie's amazing vocals! For me this album is heaven and I don't care that it's a weak one compared to bla bla bla...
