Shalamar was one of those acts where each member was popular and had great chemistry until the members started outgrowing the concept. It would have nice if Howard Hewett, Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel stayed together but it wasn't fated to be.
I liked a lot of their songs -- "Second Time Around," "A Night to Remember" and "This Is for the Lover in You" already have been mentioned, but I also liked songs like "Over and Over," "Sweeter as the Days Go By," "Full of Fire" and "Somewhere There's a Love." THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

my favorite Shalamar songs:
"Take That To The Bank" (1979) "A Night To Remember" (1982) "Don't Try To Change Me" (1982) "Help Me" (1982) "Make That Move" (1980) "Over And Over" (1983) "This Is For The Lover In You" (1981) "Full Of Fire" (1980) "The Second Time Around" (1980) "I Can Make You Feel Good" (1982) "Dead Giveaway" (1983) I've been a Shalamar fan ever since I heard "Take That To The Bank",my favorite song by them.I wore out the 'Friends' album in spring/summer of '82....that's the album that features "A Night To Remember".I think it's their best album overall. It's a shame that Howard,Jody and Jeffrey parted ways at the height of their popularity.I remember watching MTV in the summer of '83 and being shocked when the "Dead Giveaway" video came on! At that time,MTV wasn't showing alot of R&B artists,so it was surprising to see Shalamar getting that kind of exposure.

Until very, very recently, I had searched forever for that song, until I finally found out that DeBarge didn't sing it (as I had remembered it). But yeah, what a nice group they were. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I never got into the 'Heartbreak' album. To be honest,I feel like Shalamar ended in 1983 after Jody and Jeffrey left.I never bought anything from the 'New Shalamar' and even Howard deserted them after only one album. "Dancing In The Sheets" is garbage glossy,80s,electronic-pop crap. And who ever told Micki Free that he could sing?! "Games" is downright awful. . [Edited 4/10/07 5:44am]
