Marilyn Manson's first album since 2003 is called "Eat Me, Drink Me" and is set to be released on the 5th of June this year. The debut single from the album is called "Heart Shaped Glasses". They are currently filming the music video for this song with director James Cameron. The video will feature special 3D effects. It's rumoured that the single will be released on the 28th of May.

Meh..it's ok. Didn't strike me as anything too great, but it's only a small clip, so I won't reserve much judgement. I remember I thought Timberlake was on crack when I heard a sample of "Sexy Back", and it turned out to be a pretty cool song(and this is in no way an excuse to turn a MM thread into a JT thread!!!)

I feel the same way sovembol. I miss the feeling of being excitement about an upcoming release. Because lately there hasn't been much to be excited about. But I really cannot wait until this album is release. I think it's going to be really good. Alot of people are going to be surprised.

OMG! Just heard the full song (HSG) on the radio. It's so damn cool. It's like some British 80s song. Very cool. Synths, good guitar work, salsa-ish drum playing, very distorted but good vocals. I love this song!

The first thing I'd have to say is that the single is in no way indicative of how the rest of the album sounds. The good folks at Manson Legion were not lying when they said that the album is mostly mid-tempo. I think the only thing that comes slightly close to "Heart Shaped Glasses" is "Mutilation..." which is, indeed, "Rebels Without Applause". Aside from HSG, "Mutilation..." is the only song that sounds like it was made with the intent to be a follow-up single. He does criticize many "nu/emo bands" on it, as he previously said. I was overjoyed to hear that the song didn't get scrapped.

Rolling Stone cited "If I Was Your Vampire" as the focal point of the album, but for me it's "Just A Car Crash Away". That song is definitely going to become an iconic "Speed of Pain"/"Coma White"/"Man That You Fear" sort of ballad. And no, I'm not comparing that song to any of them, but it's along the same lines. Seriously, this is the one that Manson fans have been waiting for. I can't talk this song up enough. Manson doesn't sing the lyrics so much as he bleeds them out.

Pogo is indeed absent from most of the album but surprisingly Skold makes up for it. Actually, I'm not too surprised because Skold is an amazing musician. What I can say is that he's adapted himself more to Manson's sound than ever before. His compositions are dark, foreboding and many times progressive. If you enjoyed the long guitar solo in "Fundamentally Lonesome", Skold has a few solos up your alley.

Manson's vocals are great. There are instances where his vocals take on the "Heart Shaped Glasses"/"This Is Halloween" sound but it isn't overbearing. On many of the tracks, his voice sounds clearer and even more fluent than it was on "Holy Wood", an album that I think showcased his natural singing voice the most. A lot of you are worrying about the lyrics and how they were written on a whim. Trust me, they don't sound rushed. It sounds more like Manson sat down knowing very well what he would say on this album and the lyrics poured out of him. It's as though you can hear his heart breaking as he sings some of the new lyrics and it's chilling in many sections of the album. If you loved the poetic stuff that "Mechanical Animals" and "Holy Wood" brought us, you're going to have a lot to enjoy about the lyrics on EMDM.

There is a lot of references to the divorce on this album but that's just the way I took some of the stuff. Certainly, the lyrics are going to give you something deep to look into that "Golden Age" didn't. And that reminds me: there are significantly more lyrics on this album than there were on "Golden Age". Matter of fact, I think HSG had more lyrics than "mOBSCENE" did. The verses aren't overly long or overly short; again, Manson seems in tune to what he wants to say and does it in a very direct, "to the point" type of way.

"If I Was Your Vampire" is actually a better opener than I thought it would be. I can't think of any other song on the album that could've taken its place at the forefront of the new material. It does have an ACS vibe to it, but in vibe only. It's also six minutes but feels like three because of how well Skold constructed the music so that it flows well and doesn't wear out its welcome.

Which would be a proper segue into the length of the album. If my calculations were correct (because you could understand how I wouldn't be focusing on the clock) then the album is 50 minutes. The good part of that is this is one of those albums that you can listen to multiple times in a row without getting tired of it. (I practically begged, pleaded, kicked and screamed for my friend to let me listen to it twice which he did) I loved "Holy Wood" but on the day it was released, I couldn't find myself playing it repeated times because of the overabundance of filler. This album really has none. Even "Heart Shaped Glasses" can't be considered filler when taken in context with the rest of the album.

If I had to compare this to anything else, I'd say that this album has a lot in common with Joy Division's darker material and one track in particular (I still can't remember which one, sorry) reminded me a lot of JD's "Atrocity Exhibition". I think the title track may give "Count to Six and Die" some fierce competition for the title of "Best closer on a Manson album".

Will everyone love it? Fuck no. But fans who loved the Alpha side of "Mechanical Animals" and the bitterly dark material on "Holy Wood" are going to have a lot to enjoy. It's one of those albums where, when it ends, you wish there was more which is a compliment to how strong the new material is.

Almost forgot.. maybe I was on a high from hearing the album and missed it, but there are virtually no references to Celebratarianism. Unless you count "Mutilation...", but I really don't. It has no place on this album anyway.

It's not "emo" in the modern sense of that word representing whining for the sake of whining. Manson takes it back to the days where true emotion was expressed in a very honest, blunt way, and not just being a "selling point." Whoever wants to compare the album without hearing it to My Chemical Romance is in for a bitch slap; MCR couldn't write even one of these songs with detailed instructions.

Oh and "Are You the Rabbit?" fucking rocks. I still think the title is a bit silly but those of you who love Manson's obligatory "concert songs" are going to like this song better than the others. Trust me.

That's it I guess. One other thing in closing: NO, I don't have MP3's. I didn't want a copy of the album because I get a feeling it may leak soon and I wouldn't want my friend thinking I had anything to do with it. So please don't IM me looking for MP3's. I don't have them.

Some of the Suicide Girls have posted on various Marilyn Manson website. They are involved in the video. They said they just had to dance around topless. Evan Rachel Wood is starring in the video. The new bassist, Rob Holliday (formerly of The Prodigy) is in the video too.
