I'll never forget requesting that song in the Video room of this teen bar I went to as a kid. After they said they will NEVER play that video again. They closed shortly after. But not due to not playing the video of course. lol

Wanting,
needing,
waiting
For you to justify my love

Hoping,
praying
For you to justify my love

thank god she had hardly anything to do with the song, aside from being the spokes person/image

"Justify My Love" was written by Lenny Kravitz, Ingrid Chavez and Madonna. Kravitz wrote the song for Madonna, based on a poem written by friend and Prince protégé Chavez. Kravitz added the title hook and chorus. Madonna contributed a few lines. Chavez was not credited for the song and later sued Kravitz in 1992. She received an out-of-court settlement, and gained a co-writing credit.
Producer Kravitz recreated the drum beat found on Public Enemy's instrumental "Security of the First World" in the song. The song was unique in that Madonna's vocals are primarily spoken and whispered. This style served as a prelude to her next album Erotica, in which she spoke the lyrics on some of the songs rather than singing them. Kravitz provided sung background vocals. Rumors of a love affair between Kravitz and Madonna sprang up in the press upon the release of the song. Kravitz has denied these rumors.
The Beast Within is the most famous remix of this song; it uses only the chorus and certain lines. The verses are replaced by excerpts from the Book of Revelation. Madonna showcased "The Beast Within" in her 1993 Girlie Show tour and even more in her 2004 Re-Invention tour. In the latter, "The Beast Within" was a prologue that played amongst apocalyptic imagery of Madonna on the video screens, prior to her appearance on the stage.
The song was covered by rapper Vita and pop-R&B singer Ashanti for The Fast and the Furious soundtrack. Rapper Jay-Z's song, "Justify My Thug," from his Black Album, produced by DJ Quik, is a remake of "Justify My Love."

I wanna kiss you in paris
I wanna hold your hand in rome
I wanna run naked in a rainstorm
Make love in a train cross-country
You put this in me
So now what, so now what?

Chorus:

Wanting, needing, waiting
For you to justify my love

Hoping, praying
For you to justify my love

I want to know you
Not like that
I don't wanna be your mother
I don't wanna be your sister either
I just wanna be your lover
I wanna be your baby
Kiss me, that's right, kiss me

(chorus)

Yearning, burning
For you to justify my love

What are you gonna do?
What are you gonna do?
Talk to me -- tell me your dreams
Am i in them?
Tell me your fears
Are you scared?
Tell me your stories
I'm not afraid of who you are
We can fly!

Poor is the man
Whose pleasures depend
On the permission of another
Love me, that's right, love me
I wanna be your baby

(chorus)

I'm open and ready
For you to justify my love
To justify my love
Wanting, to justify
Waiting, to justify my love
Praying, to justify
To justify my love
I'm open, to justify my love

I love that song. Lenny Kravitz did a good job writing it and his backing vocals sound really good. He and Madonna should do a duet together.

I never was a huge fan of the song when it was popular (i was 10) but it's grown on me...however i MUCH prefer the song "Erotica."

I also think the track from the LP Erotica called "Waiting" is an improved, sequel to JML.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Justify My Love was a landmark track for her as it completely ripped her from her comfort zone of rather conventional pop/dance music, and showed her what she could do going a different route. It was absolutely the best thing she could have released at the time - while lesser artists would have simply opted for a Vogue mark II to promote their greatest hits.

Kravitz and Chavez undoubtably penned a brilliant tune for her, but its her delivery that is the true genius of the record - one of the timless sexy vocals ever. She must have smoked a helluva lotta cigarettes before recording this one.

It also has to go down as one of the best single maxi releases she's ever done. The William Orbit, Hip Hop & Beast Within remixes are all mind blowingly good.

However the ultimate shout out has to go to the Mondino directed video. Madonna knew exactly the message she wnated to give with this song , and made a video that really pushed the message, and took it beyond the possibilities of the song itself. No other pop artist on the planet would have had the balls to do this at that point in their career.

An absolutely classic Madonna moment.

I always thought it was a fan favorite. We had a discussion about that album a while ago and most agreed it was the best track on there.
