1980s R&B Jam of the Day: Frankie Smith "Double Dutch Bus" A song inspired by the jump-rope game while employing the nasal, comical voice of Frankie Smith and some Philadelphia-area children using pig Latin in the break, this dancefloor staple spent four weeks atop the Billboard R&B Singles chart in Summer 1981.
An interesting note is that Smith was the nephew of late comedian Pigmeat Markham, of "Heyeah (here) come da judge" fame. I was still in the eighth grade at the time and there were a few more months left until summer vacation. Great jam though. One of my favorites from that year. Andy is a four letter word. | |
