Coolest kinda-country I heard lately... Kinda-country, I suppose as it is easy to call guitar plucking ladies that harmonize with identical twins country. Maybe too easy.
But I must admit that finally I feel like it is lovely to hear a woman take a plunge it the country spectrum again in such a superb way. Who am I talking about? About Rabbit Fur Coat, an album by Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins. It's already a year old, but I just came across it and I already love it. It's acoustic, but not too much, it dares to venture into soundscapes. I know Jenny Lewis's voice, cuz she is/was (dunno) part of Rilo Kiley, something I rolled into through Conor Oberst (of Birght Eyes fame). But here she takes a step into what I suppose is best translated as country lo-fi. And what is so sublime on this album is her voice, the harmonisations and the fact that her voice may not be the kinda voice I normally go for (the Björkses, Torises and Kateses) but in this setting she reminds me (at times) of Emmylou Harris and some of the harmonisations are like Dolly Parton's bluegrass old skool songs. But then sung in that sweet voice. So there, I love it. Go give it a try.

I only heard a cover she did of ´Handle me with Care´ which I liked. I am liking Richard Swift at the moment who does a lovely cover of Prince and the Revolutions´s ´Paisley Park´. There's Joy In Expatriation.

I've been singing the praises of this album for ages.
She's definitely early-Dolly-Parton good. [Edited 4/9/07 7:57am]

She's definitely early-Dolly-Parton good. She is! I am TOTALLY smitten. I already pushed her onto my only bluegrass loving buddy.

I mean; look at the twins! They are CHANNELING Parton, looks-wise! Blue eye-shadow (is that what you call it in English?)!

Definitely try to go see her live. I saw her with Rilo Kiley a couple of years ago, and she's so charming, she makes the audience feel like they're in her living room or something.

I will keep an eye out for her.
And I am sad I missed you raving about her before. Got any other tips?

It's always really exciting to me to see the orgers who really love this world. I grew up going to bluegrass festivals and listening to country and I hated it now that I'm older and do all things on my terms I have found my love for country/folk/bluegrass Love this album! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Well, my last crush was on this bluegrass loving, red bearded man, so... and I already loved early Parton and whenever Loretta Lynn. I love the fact Conor Oberst is on there. Together wiith Jens Lekman and Sufjan Stevens he is my most current musical love.

And I am sad I missed you raving about her before. Got any other tips? I wish I had more recommendations like her, but she's definitely one of a kind. Definitely check out the Rilo Kiley CDs, and Blake Sennet's Elected album. I think he and Jenny are totally the new Lindsey and Stevie. I love Amy Rigby a lot, but she's got a different vibe, more of a bar-band gal. And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Iris Dement, who reminds me a little bit of Jenny, but is definitely more classic-sounding.

I loved her '93 lp My Life - that album is a masterpiece of trad country. I've never listened to anything else she's released, though...

Ooh, definitely get Infamous Angel...it's as good as My Life, although a little more raw. The Way I Should is definitely good, but not up there with the first two. [Edited 4/10/07 10:05am]
