Disco/early dance music listeners: I need your help Last night a friend of mine told me he was having a disco-themed party some-time in the coming weeks.... He wanted me to provide the music in the form of home-made compilations. I decided to make two CDs, one with mostly straight-up disco, the other one focuses mainly on post-disco and early 80s dance music. Now I'm contemplating whether to add a 3rd CD or if I should alter the track listings.... I'll post the tracklistings for the 2 CDs. Please tell me what y'all think:
Note: I wanted to avoid most of the too obvious songs, which is why you won't find "I Will Survive", "It's Raining Men" or "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" on my compilations. Disc 1 (DISCO) 1. Donna Summer - Hot Stuff (12" version) 2. Chic - Chic Cheer 3. Prince - Sexy Dancer 4. The Jacksons - Lovely One 5. Madonna - Everybody (Original Version) 6. Þú og ég - Villi og Lúlla (Icelandic disco act, was promoted as You and I in Japan, sound sample here: http://tonlist.is/PlayTra...&Preview=1) 7. ABBA - Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight) 8. Blondie - Heart of Glass 9. ABBA - Voulez-Vous 10. Chic - Le Freak 11. The Jacksons - Blame It On The Boogie (12" Promo Remix) 12. Earth, Wind & Fire - Boogie Wonderland 13. Ljósin í bænum - Disco Frisco (Icelandic disco-act, sort of a studio project featuring members of fusion band Mezzoforte as session musicians - sound sample here: http://tonlist.is/PlayTra...&Preview=1 Disc 2 (Post-DISCO) 1. Donna Summer - I Feel Love 2. Taana Gardner - Heartbeat (Club Version) 3. Dinosaur - Kiss Me Again 4. Was (Not Was) - Wheel Me Out 5. Laid Back - White Horse 6. Logg - I Know You Will (Original 12 inch Remix) 7. Skyy - Superlove 8. Imagination - Just An Illusion (Extended version) 9. Kajagoogoo - Too Shy 10. Liquid Liquid - Cavern 11. Arthur Russell - Go Bang [Edited 4/8/07 10:15am]

If you make a third disc, here's some songs you might wanna consider:
"Try It Out" by Gino Soccio (1981) "I'm Ready" by Kano (1980) "All Night Thing" by Invisble Man's Band (1980) "Love Has Come Around" by Donald Byrd (1982) "Anybody Wanna Party?" by Gloria Gaynor (1979) "I'll Tell You" by Sergio Mendes (1979) "Over Like A Fat Rat" by Fonda Rae (1982) "Stage Fright" by Chic (1981) "Rapture" by Blondie (1980) "Fate" by Chaka Khan (1981) "Don't You Want My Love" by Debbie Jacobs (1979) "Hangin Out" by Kool and The Gang (1979) "Get On The Floor" by Michael Jackson (1979) "The Real Thing" by Brothers Johnson (1981) "Why Leave Us Alone" by Five Special (1979) "Love's Comin At Cha" by Melba Moore (1982) "So Fine" by Howard Johnson (1982) "Mandolay" by La Flavour (1979) "I Like What You're Doing To Me" by Young and Company (1980) "Remote Control" by the Reddings (1980) "Overnight Sensation" by Jerry Knight (1980) As you can see,I picked alot of "not-too-obvious" songs Sometimes,I get tired of the well-known songs too.I wanna hear the rare, forgotten stuff!

I also would highly reccomend Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" the 12" mix. That song always gets people to the floor. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Time Is Movin' - The Blackbyrds (1976) Let's All Chant - The Machael Zager Band (1978) I Don't Know If It's Right - Evelyn "Champagne" King (1977) I Don't Want To lose your Love - The Emotions (1976) [Edited 4/8/07 22:07pm] ..."think from a positive place, and eliminate the negative fate"...

I would replace Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" with "Bad Girls," which has a more driving beat. I feel "Hot Stuff" is a little too obvious.
I don't consider The Jacksons' "Lovely One" a disco-oriented song. If you want a Jacksons song, I would consider "Shake Your Body Down to the Ground" (preferably the 12" version). I would consider Amy Stewart's version of "Knock on Wood" and Peaches and Herb's "Shake Your Groove Thing." THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

Thanx a lot to everyone who suggested stuff that I could use... I decided to make a 3rd disc, using some of the suggestions I got from here and I added some other stuff as well... Granted, there might be a bit too much of Donna Summer here, but I guess she HAS to be a big part of any serious disco party. Also, there are some songs on there that might not technically be "disco", like "Rapper's Delight" for instance, but the music in "Rapper's Delight" is an interpretation of a Chic song, so I decided to include it anyway.
So here's my 3rd CD (DISCO FRISCO): 1. Lipps Inc. - Funkytown (12") 2. Donna Summer - Bad Girls 3. Peter Brown - Dance With Me 4. Debbie Jacobs - Don't You Want My Love 5. Musique - Push Push in the Bush 6. Prince - Just As Long As We're Together (Disco Mix) 7. Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight (7.00 Edit) 8. Cerrone - Cerrone's Paradise´ 9. Anita Ward - Ring My Bell (12 ") 10. Peaches & Herb - Shake Your Groove Thing 11. Blondie - Rapture 12. Boney M - Daddy Cool 13. Donna Summer - Our Love (a cover version of the song in Icelandic was very popular in the mid-90s and has been redone by other local artists several times since. I included the original since the cover version is more new-wave/rock oriented)

[Edited 4/11/07 15:02pm] Yes, of course. One question though, will you be wearing disco hotpants?

ditch the prince songs, the madonna song, the kajagoogoo and the lipps inc songs and you will have an awesome party.

omg I love lets all chant! we had the extended mix on record when I was little and the way the percussion built up was so impressive to me as a 5 year old that I would start making that beat with my mouth or the table and tell my dad to add in the other sounds I could only find the edited version on limewire but it was pure magic! However I think we have it dubbed over a family vacation video, gonna go listen to it now
