I don’t have i-tunes, but I have had an account with last fm since May of last year, so the list below can be considered by top 25 for the last 11 months or so.
No real surprises – I’ve clearly spent a lot of time listening to Scott Walker’s The Drift, The Handsome Family’s Last Days of Wonder and the Pernice Brothers in the past year. The only real shock is that Dylan’s Modern Times didn’t make it up there as well, but I think last fm couldn’t read the tracks on that album for a spell for some reason, so its rank is probably a little understated. Also, the appearance of that Olivia Tremor Control song at #1 is a little misleading. There are actually ten distinct tracks that have that title on their ‘dusk at cubist castle’ lp, and last fm reads them all as the same song, so that artificially elevated its standing. Overall Top Tracks 1 The Olivia Tremor Control – Green Typewriters 52 2 Scott Walker – Clara 39 3 Scott Walker – Jesse 38 4 Pernice Brothers – Our Time Has Passed 36 4 Scott Walker – Jolson and Jones 36 6 Scott Walker – Cue 34 7 Scott Walker – Buzzers 33 7 Scott Walker – Hand Me Ups 33 9 Scott Walker – Psoriatic 31 10 Scott Walker – The Escape 30 11 Scott Walker – A Lover Loves 28 11 Pernice Brothers – Clear Spot 28 13 The Handsome Family – After We Shot The Grizzly 27 13 Scott Walker – Cossacks Are 27 13 The Handsome Family – Telsa's Hotel Room 27 13 Pernice Brothers – She Heightened Everything 27 13 Pernice Brothers – Crestfallen 27 18 The Handsome Family – These Golden Jewels 26 18 Pernice Brothers – Wait to Stop 26 18 Pernice Brothers – Monkey Suit 26 21 The Handsome Family – Flapping Your Broken Wings 25 21 The Handsome Family – Beautiful William 25 23 The Handsome Family – White Lights 24 23 The Handsome Family – All the Time in Airports 24 25 The Handsome Family – Our Blue Sky 23 25 Pernice Brothers – Bryte Side 23 [Edited 4/8/07 10:44am]

Although I discovered last night that playing it on the comp w/ the volume REALLY low (I'm up in the middle of the night) isn't so bad & keeps me motivated to do little shit around the house. I'll be trying to hit higher numbers next time

... Um, I don't even like Jamie Foxx... Just out of curiousity, which one is #1? Although maybe it doesn't matter, Jamie is in that shit either way I have NO Jill Scott in my top 25, yet she's on constant rotation on my playlists - I must have different versions of her songs in different playlists, I thought she'd be all over mine!

On the side where all your playlists are, ITunes automatically generates a few playlists of its own: Music Videos, Recently Played & Top 25 Most Played

it's not a current picture. True - I haven't played Toni Braxton's "Please" in hella long, but I think the list is interesting just to see what you did have on repeat whenever. But if you're worried that you'll be judged too harshly

I do love VIP tho. That song is so smooth especially on a night drive. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Usually just The Family over and over, but I know most of that listening happened at February. (I'm 8 hours away from my iTunes right now otherwise I would paste it).

it's not a current picture. My stats were reset this year. The logicboard on my notebook crashed and when it got serviced I lost allll my iTunes Play Count info since December 2002. :-/ Before that, I had 10 songs with up to 300-500 plays a piece. So that's why it's filled with current music.

You can create another one. Go to "File" - "New Smart Playlist." In the box that appears, check the box in front of "Limit to" and make it say "Limit to 25 items selected by most often played." Hit OK and you're done. Since I've been keeping track of play counts for about 5 years or so, my top 25 all have more than 300 plays. There's not much variation. There's no substitute for the actual albums. However, The Hits/The B-Sides is the best compilation because of the third disc; b-sides are a huge part of Prince's catalog ("Erotic City," "She's Always in My Hair," "17 Days," etc.). Ultimate is worthwhile for the second disc of 12" versions (another essential part of his catalog), but you'd still be missing a lot of them.
