I'd recommend reading Ashley Kahn's book on the making of the album.

Definitely one of my favorite jazz albums! This was the record that got me into the intensity and coolness of jazz, not Miles Davis' classic Kind Of Blue. It's really a spiritual journey that everyone should experience.
