J-Lo "No" to MOBO...

From http://www.mirror.co.uk/n...teid=50143 :

J-NO TO A MOBO

Lopez refuses black CD honour

From the 3am girls

HER collaborations with rap stars P Diddy and Ja Rule have helped her sell millions of albums over the world.

So it was only natural that the organisers of the Music Of Black Origin Awards would want to include Jennifer Lopez on their annual compilation album MOBO 2002.

After all she is one of the biggest stars of the genre, last week scooping an MTV Award for best hip hop video and last year happily accepting two MOBO nominations.

But the fiery actress/singer had other ideas.

In a sternly written letter La Lopez has refused to let any of her songs be included on the album.

HIP HOP HOORAY: Jennifer says her music is of Latin origin

Her reason? She doesn't consider her music to be of "black origin".

The stroppy diva says her work - which has featured hardcore US rapper Nas - is of Latin origin and that she doesn't want anything to do with the celebratory collection.

Our impeccably placed source told us: "No one at MOBO could believe it when J-Lo told them why she didn't want to be on the compilation.

"If she'd just said she didn't want to be on it, then fine. But to claim her music isn't of black origin is a joke. On what grounds is it Latino music? It's not like she's singing in Spanish.

"It will be nice to hear what people like P Diddy, Ja Rule and Nas think of her comments. Without them she probably wouldn't have had so many hits or number one albums."

EX: Puff Daddy has worked on J-Lo's music

Her refusal to appear on the CD, which features music from Ms Dynamite, Jamiroquai and the Sugababes, is bound to anger fans, many of whom would be suprised to hear that she doesn't describe her music as a mixture of R&B and hip-hop.

Last year she faced protests and accusations of racism after using the word "nigger" on her smash hit, I'm Real.

The track was said to be about her failed romance with music mogul P Diddy and caused a storm.

Defending her use of the word she said: "For anyone to suggest or say that I am racist is really absurd and hurtful to me. The use of the word in the song was not meant to be hurtful to anyone in anyway."

The MOBO Awards, which take place at London Arena on October 1, were initiated to recognise the success of R&B, reggae, dance, jazz, gospel and hip hop acts - urban artists.

A MOBO spokesperson told us: "With collaborations with urban artists we are surprised that she would accept a recent best hip-hop award and previous MOBO nominations, but not consider her style of music to be of black origin. A statement from Jennifer Lopez to her UK label states that she doesn't consider her music to be of black origin."

A spokesperson for J-Lo hit back saying: "The record company acts as the go-between for an artist like Jennifer. They negotiate with the artist and the people making the compilation album.

"It can be very complicated."

What happened to the comments that were posted here before? Did the whole thing get deleted due to subyduby's racist remarks, so we get a chance to start over?

She's showing her true colors alright. A casting coach, 15 minutes almost up, passing for white wannabe, washed up slut who now can't get a hit movie to save her life! If these idiots refuse to collaborate or produce this wannabe white slut's next so called "latina musical project" which has always sounded like trash to me, and I hope is now a surprise to Diddy and Ja-Rule (if not then they're hoes as well) then I will continue to support them, but if they're still hypnotized by the fat ass, then f___ them too!

I guess "J Lo" needs music history lessons. I don't own anything by her but everything I've ever heard by her has nothing to do with Latin music - unless she considers it such simply because she's performing it. And that would be bogus.

Maybe a few years ago when the media created Latin Music craze was going on she naively bought into it, lock, stock and barrell.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

The funny thing about J-Lo is that, her hip-hop styled remixes are actually more popular than the original versions of her singles! For example, look at the original version of her song "I'm Real".It came out and didn't create that much of a stir UNTIL Ja-Rule appeared with her on the remix. The same goes for her follow-up single "Ain't It Funny".She owes a great deal of her recent success to Ja Rule and the Murder Inc. producers.

But,she is by no means a racist.Just a little confused perhaps smile

Too bad the original versions of those songs are better. Not good, mind you, but better. You can always count on Ja Rule to completely screw up and ok song. And you can count on a lot of stupid people to enjoy the results.

...Ummm, I don't think so. Just because I enjoy some of her songs doesn't mean that I'm included among the 'stupid' people (or whoever it is that you're referring to) I also know many people who like her, and they're not stupid either. Although I don't buy her CD's, some of her songs are just 'nice' to listen to, like "Waiting for tonight".
