Great 1st albums, sucky follow-ups... What artists do you think had great first releases, but subsequent releases left you feeling disappointed?
For me, I would begin my list with: Deep Forest Conjure One

The Stone Roses debut was a stone called classic. Notoriosuly ´Second Coming´ was a big dissapointment but personally I think it has some great moments. There's Joy In Expatriation.

lists, lists, lists. Back int he day people got a chance to tweedle around a bit before settling into their ways. Imagine if WB had dumped Prince after his second album, saying 'Sorry, it is a bit of everything and nothing"....

I listen to Second Coming far more than the debut. Top stuff. Love 'em both, tho'.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! I may be e-lynched for saying this, especially around here, but TTD is OVERRATED!!!!
I tried so hard to get into him and failed miserably. Ten times out of ten, all I ended up doing was putting on some Prince.

Mel C's sophomore LP was a huge disappointment after her genius debut.

I liked TTds' 1st album, but the less commercial fishy flesh through me off track, seeming very self indulgent.
Now I realise that at the time I was too young to appreciate it and still finding fishy/flesh his weakest album, it is still a fine piece of work and better than a few of princes albums. All in all, it wasn't a flop unless he wanted to go very big time.
