"Love Hangover" was a very successful and popular single for legendary Motown diva Diana Ross when it was released in 1976. It rose to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Hot Soul Singles and Hot Dance Club Play charts simultaneously. The song was written by Pamela Sawyer and Marilyn McLeod and had been originally recorded by Sylvester. While Sylvester's version was becoming an underground club smash, the song was given to The Fifth Dimension as a disco number. However, when the Motown staff got a hold on it, they insisted that it would be perfect if Ross recorded it. Ross, like most of her soul contemporaries Aretha Franklin and fellow Motown label mate Marvin Gaye, resented the new musical movement until finally agreeing at the eleventh-hour to record the song. In order to get into the song, she and the producer loosened up in the studio by drinking alcoholic beverages. As the song changed from being a ballad to uptempo, Ross became more comfortable with herself and the material; she hummed, sang bit parts, laughed, danced around and even imitated Billie Holiday. [1] The carefree and sensual nature of Ross' vocals and the music's direction helped to sell the song. When The Fifth Dimension and Ross went toe-to-toe with the song (releasing it at the same time), Ross charted higher. By the time "Love Hangover" went to number one, Ross had reinvented herself as a disco diva and the 5th Dimension's version had peaked at number eighty. It won Ross a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance. [edit] Other versions As well as the Fifth Dimension covering it, the song was also released as a single by the Associates, a British New-wave band. It reached #21 on the UK chart in 1982. The song would become part of the hip-hop lexicon via sampling by everyone from Will Smith to Monica to Janet Jackson. Thanks for the info.It would be interesting to hear the Sylvester and Fifth Dimension versions.

Love Hangover is a throwaway track You guys are nuts "Love Hangover" is one of the greatest dance/disco songs ever.I heard that, back in 1976 when they would play this song at the clubs, people would rush to the dancefloor. The second part of the song (uptempo) is intoxicating. It's hard to sit still when that part begins.I like the way the song transitions from a ballad to a dance track.Right at that moment when they sing "I don't wanna get,I don't wanna get",you can hear cymbal clashes...the drummer sounds really anxious, like he can't wait to start banging away, lol. That part kills me everytime.

I love the song and the remix that came out in the 90s.
It is one of the sexiest songs Diana ever recoreded. It's almost as erotic as "Love To Love Me Baby". **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I already have the remastered version of Diana, but I've often thought about spending the $20+ on the deluxe version just for that alternate mix of "Love Hangover." I'd love to hear it! I've got the Deluxe version. Well worth it if you're a fan of the "Diana" album and Chic. Not only do you get a slew of great 12" versions on the second disc, but you get the alternate Chic mix of "Diana". It's not that different to the well-known version, but it's an interesting listen. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

I agree with this. Although it's a DIRECT bite off of Soul's and my girl Donna's "Love To Love You Baby", it bangs nevertheless. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I was born some eight years before "Love Hangover" was a released single, and it is a good song. I personally would like more if it wasn't for the uptempo part -- of course it was a disco influence, but also reminds me of the structure in The O'Jays' "Living for the Weekend." THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. HOLD ON TO YOUR DRAWERS!

It's one of the good Diana tunes.
The soft, slow part that speeds up into a classic disco beat is great. By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Discos were cutting me out of work. Many clubs that used to hire live music switched to DJs. The upper end spots did both. Plus you know I don't get along with Miss DR. I feel about her (outside of The Supremes) the way vainandy feels about Whitney Houston. Well, not that bad. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 [Edited 4/4/07 12:48pm] "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn.
