The New Modest Mouse Kicks Love Johnny Marr's guitar-playing on it. The singer is crazy. Tremendous.

It's pretty good, huh? Part of me feels like it's the same old thing they've been doing forever, but for some reason, it manages to get me every time! | |

I don't know I think after The Moon & Antarctica I'm going to be disappointed no matter what they do.

I've been a little underwhelmed since their major label debut, but I'm actually enjoying this one aplenty. Brock is in typical form, doing the schizophrenic lunatic things he does with his voice...but musically, this album has a consistent uptempo that was missing on the previous 2 releases.
When I heard Marr was on this album, I had a WTF moment. But it works wonderfully, and there's somthing about the structure of this group of songs that lend themselves to 80's alternative / new wave music. The two forces mesh well, and I experience moments when I can't believe I'm not listening to 'Fred' on XM Radio... ...and 'Spitting Venom' may be the most fun I've had with this band since 'Teeth Like God's Shoeshine'...
