Back in 1993 she had a well-known song here in the United States..."Dreams" which came from her "Find Your Way" titled album. Her music and voice intertwined with life and people relations truly affect me realistically/personally. Everytime I have a song of Gabrielle playing, people ask in interest... "Who is that!" , and many have purchased her music. I would love to see her "live", perhaps I need to travel soon.
She has such a soothing and mellow voice... I always adored her too... her cd's always go down well when I'm having a bubble bath... very relaxxxing Her self-titled album was really beautiful... --»You're my favourite moment, you're my Saturday...

Bee Gees (still!) Terence Trent D'Arby Bjork LoL Bjork, The BeeGees and Kate Bush have been showered with the attention they deserve. And TTD, how much I like the man's music...he has always been given TOO much props. He is over-arrogant. No focus...

My pick goes to;
Shuggie Otis If you do not know him...it proves me right. Shuggie was the first to incorporate drum machines in his music. His music was of such a high standard that, like Prince in some moments in his life (NOT the current one) he was WAY ahead of his time. He is the writer of Strawberry Letter 23. His version was not the one to make the song famous, but his songwriting still stands strong after all these years. Go check out Inspiration Information; a remastered release of two of his albums from the 70's. http://www.amazon.com/exe...ce&s=music [This message was edited Tue Sep 17 0:06:51 PDT 2002 by gooeythehamster]

Definitely their music is intoxicating... Beth's voice is both chilling and haunting, and incredibly beautiful... Portishead's music can make misery seem so alluring... It could be sweet But the thoughts we try to deny Take a toll upon our lives We struggle on in depths of pride Tangled up in single minds --»You're my favourite moment, you're my Saturday...

My girlfreind likes James as much as I like Prince. When she told me this I thought, all they've ever done is "Sit Down" but when I went to see them live I was really impressed with how good a band they were. They were seen as just another Manchester indie band and never got the credit that they deserved, compared to say The Stone Roses who were vastly over rated. -----------------------------------------

Sheila E.
Seriously!...in the mainstream, she's pretty much dismissed as nothing more than an '80s one-hit wonder & ex-Prince kitten. Not may people realize the extensive background she had as a session musician, and her proficiency as a percussionist. Her current jazz CD is amazing...and I have yet to hear a single track played on my local jazz station! The "Sex Cymbal" CD from 1992 was deserving of alot more attention than it received...it had that "Latin Sound" almost a decade before Ricky Martin & Shakira exploded on the scene. I become even more dismayed when people confuse her with Sheena Easton...(how many postings on Morpheus have YOU seen for Sheena E. or Sheila Easton? Not cool.) By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Definitely Duran Duran.
I'll say one thing about the Brit Awards in the UK. Every year they give the award for 'Outstanding COntribution to British Music', and now they've basically gone through all the old fart soloists (Elton John, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart etc.), then they moved on and gave the Eurythmics the award in their comeback year. Deservedly so, but I fear we'll never get to see any other of those classic new wave early 80s acts get this supposed "honour". They gave it to the freakin' Spice Girls the next year and resorted to U2 in another (who aren't even British). It's like they're scraping the bottom of the barrel and conveniently forgetting that the act in question has to be British (this was the same year U2 were nominated for Best INTERNATIONAL group). Duran Duran are still together. In fact THIS year they have reformed with their original line-up and we're expecting a new album soon. They still tour. They still bring in the crowds, but critics hate them. The poor reviews for their last studio album 'Pop Trash' were unjustified.
