ESTHERO - who's into her? Went to see "I Think I Love My Wife" tonight - pretty good, some definite weak spots but he's getting to be a better director since "Head of State"... ANYWAY, after digging up info on the songs used in the film (there's no soundtrack! ) I think the song that caught my eye most (besides Cody Chestnutt, which & already have, & the Foo Fighters) was one by Esthero. I'm pretty sure I've heard of this chick but never paid attention at all. Of course the one song I want ("Country Livin' - The World I Know") isn't on ITunes so I gotta get the whole bloody album
Who digs her? What's her overall vibe? She might be someone I need to check out anyway - thanks for any info

I dig Esthero ever since I heard That Girl a few years ago. I love her voice and once an Esthero song gets stuck in your head it’s hard to let go. If you bought Breath From Another (I saw you mention it in another thread) you might like it especially since it has That Girl which you might recognize and Heaven Scent. Both really great songs.
Wikked Lil' Grrrls is hot too. A little bolder. We R In Need of a Musical Revolution is like a friggin' anthem. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Wikked Lil' Grrrls is hot too. A little bolder. We R In Need of a Musical Revolution is like a friggin' anthem. I love the girl's music!!! As soon as I saw the video for Breath from Another on the old video jukebox channel in the late '90s I went all over Chicago searching record stores for the album. I wore that thing out! Superheroes is the jam!!! Years passed and all she had was an EP so I figured she was another music biz casualty. Then I saw the video for We R In Need... on NPGMC (Thanks Prince ). That song is truly an anthem. I turn it all the way up and scream along with it! I watched the video over and over until the album dropped. I picked up Wikked Lil' Grrrls as soon as it came out! I love that one too! Buy them both. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I thought she fell through the crack too with such a lapse between releases but she’s worked with quite an array of people.
A song I really like by her is Shine on Boney James’s album. I’m also a little surprised she’s not more popular by now. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

Have you heard "Balmes (A Better Life)" by Ian Pooley? It's a dance track, she sounds great on that one. There used to be a video for it on youtube. Yeah, she should be more popular, but given the current musical landscape I'm really not surprised that she isn't. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

I so dig this chick. The 1st song I heard from her was O.G Bitch. I don't know who she was calling out but funk she wasn't playing . Wicked Lil Girls is being slept on. She has a couple of new tracks on her Myspace page that are worth checking out. Just Call Me Afrochick
I love you mom | |

ding ding ding ding! ! MEEE! remember before the black eyed peas went pop they had a single called "weekend"? that's our girl esthero! and like amy winehouse, this one is DEFINITELY an unapologetically a broad. i first saw her on chris rock's cable show. i always taste a little bit of bjork mixed with a little sade and on her last cd, occasionally rickie lee jones when i listen to her. girl, what is with the org this week? we are on a roll with all these drinkin' hell raisin singers around here! esthero is fantastic, especially live. sadly she just got dropped from her label so who knows when we'll see her next. from her first cd, choice cuts are "that girl" and "anywayz" - good for chilling. on the second "wikked lil grrls" cd, u might like the title track, the politically-romantically incorrect "if tha mood", the ballad "gone" featuring cee-lo. oh hell, actually the whole cd is pretty solid. for some random tracks on itunes, put in a search for a tune called "OG Bitch" "superheroe", and another ambient tune she did with japanese/new yorker DJ Krush called "final home". again, like winehouse, esthero generally sings 'grown folks music' with (cough cough) mature themes and occasional cursing. best not to play a lot of her stuff in front of nephews, nieces or god-chillins. although that little thing she did with sean lennon ("everydays a holiday with you") is happy and sun-shiny enough for the kids
