I'd take Whitney over Mariah any day. Whitney can sing softly without resorting to that damned whisper voice. Also, in her prime, Whitney made singing look so ridiculously effortless (a lot like Roger Federer in tennis the last few years).

Exactly!!! You never see Whitney waving her arms around on stage like she's having a damn seizure like so many of these other "Divas" tend to do. Whitney never needed to do all that. All she has to do is stand there and sing. She makes hitting those high notes look ridiculously easy. Nobody is f-ing with Nippy period!

By Ur comments I get U're not a singer. smile

Wow! Whitney looks just like Dionne Warwick on this pic. She’s a great singer who deserves another chance. I hope she can come back as strong as ever. Her Christmas cd ‘One Wish’ (12.03) is really nice.

I like it too, especially the medley "Deck the halls/Silent night" dancing jig

I have never understood the big fuss with Aretha, Whitney has a more pleasant voice and can control it much better. I don't like that screeching / screaming type of singing like they try to emulate on American idol.

However Mariah is a better artist and a great songwriter.

Clive is right! Mariah can sing, but she is overrated IMO & she defenitly aint coming close to Whitney in the singing department. Whitney has the greatest voice ever.

she used to but not anymore when I listen to Whitney's and mariah's last albums I can tell who's been taking better care of her voice!

I like Mariah but I would not call her "great songwriter".
On the other hand, Aretha is a great sonwriter.

I'm not sure that I agree that Whitney has the greatest voice ever, but I do agree that she's much better than Mariah. I think Mariah can definitely sing, but her songs and voice irritate me to the point where I can't stand listening to her anymore. She also acts like such a bimbo. If it's only an act, she should get over it and act like a women instead of a 15 year old girl.

I'm not sure where Whitney would be today if it wasn't for Clive. She has said so herself that she owes much to him and I believe he will help her have a successful comeback.

As far as Clives comments "she is talking enthusiastically and is articulate", we all know she was talking complete drug induced nonsense for years, so I completely understand why he would make this comment.

Good luck Whitney. Your fans are anxiously waiting for your new cd.

actually it ain't the 1st time Clive disses Whitney either.

He just did it a couple of months ago by saying that Whitney's not a writer or a producer, and that she's going back to do what she does best,, singing.

Considering his position, he should know MUCH better how to pick up his words.

That though, is true, and she's the 1st one to admit it. She said it many times that she doesn't stay long in the studio, she'd only show up to do her parts and bounce.

But this article made it sound like she was some illiterate junkie hooker who doesn't know how to talk or act in front of people.

Aretha, Whitney they are all great, but no one mentions my girl; Randy Crawford. Has anyone heard her sing live? flawless, one of those rare singers that sound better live than on record.

Like hell! Mariah still possess the 8th octave vocal range. cool

eek Who said it was 8 octaves? eek

It isn't. The highest note she's sung is a G#7, and that was back in 1991, I don't think she can go that high now. cry

After further research, I took notice that the reports about Mariah's vocal range were a little over the top. But even at five or six octave, Mariah still has higher range than Whitney, without question.

Well first of all i hope he is just talking about RB singers, I'll give him Aretha but Ann Wilson and Annie Lennox would destroy Whitney in a second, plus they are more soulful. I dont think Mariahs voice is shot, she has just changed her way of singing, i have seen her live many times recently and the vocals are there, so to say Mariahs voice is shot is insane. As far as Whitney i havent heard her sing in a long time, but we all know that drink and smoking and drugs do not help your vocals though they help creativity, vocals will be diminished from years of this, look at any rock vocalist that has had drug/drink issues.

"Ann Wilson and Annie Lennox"---I hope you're joking??? Neither one of those women can sing a lick.

Davis might be losing it and is being petty....Saying this isn't going to help Whitney sell albums, let alone more albums than Carey. It's so childish, really. And you know if Carey were on his label and Whitney wasn't anymore....

It figures that his old ass would enjoy a feud between two singers that make weak ass music like Shitney and Scarey. Hell, he needs to start a feud between Shitney and Prince. Maybe she would put some funk in her music then.
