What are your picks for Tevin Campbell's 5 best ballads? I thought about giving reasons why for each of my picks, but couldn't think of anything but the fact that they're all simply great songs, all beautifully sung and expertly produced. My list:
1.Could You Learn To Love (from Back To The World) 2.Always In My Heart (from I'm Ready) 3.The Only One For Me (from Tevin Campbell) 4.Dandelion (from Tevin Campbell) 5.Don't Say Goodbye Girl (from I'm Ready) I do like stuff from the first cd also, but these are the 5 I like most.

Theyd most probably all be from "i'm ready" i really love that album - the title track from "back to the world" is a nice one too, not many ppl have that cd

He's had more than five songs so it shouldn't be too hard to pick the best five.

1. I'm Ready
2. Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me) 3. Alone With You 4. Always in My Heart 5. Tell Me What You Want Me to Do If "Tomorrow" doesn't count because it's a QJ song, add "Shhh" to the end. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

IMO, "Can We Talk" and "Goodbye" are just fast enough to not be called ballads. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

He should cover Jill Scott's "A Long Walk".

I also love "Can We Talk" and "Goodbye," but I still think they're too fast to be ballads. Am I the only one? "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

"Can We Talk" and its sound-alike "I'm Ready" can't qualify as ballads -- they are mid-tempo to slightly uptempo. "Round and Round" is an uptempo song. "Don't Say Goodbye Girl" is definitely a ballad. I personally thought Tevin Campbell's downfall was that he had no definitive style -- he was similar to Justin Timberlake in that he simply was the vehicle for that producer's style. When Qunicy Jones produced him on the "Back on the Block" album, he sounded like young Michael Jackson. When Babyface produced him, he sounded like a Babyface clone. When Al B. Sure! produced him, he sounded like Al B. Sure! With Prince, it was the same thing -- a Prince wannabe. "Alone with You" sounds exactly like Al B. Sure!'s last hit, "Right Now," from the "Sexy Versus" album. Well they are ballads to me. They are both very poignant considering the age he was when he sang them. [Edited 3/26/07 11:12am]
