I like his 1988 album 'Joy'.His 1993 album 'A Little More Magic' has some cool tracks too.But mostly,I like the two albums he released in the late 70s.

I just found out that he recorded "Don`t leave me this way" first, before Thelma Houston made it her signature hit.

If you're getting anything by Teddy Pendergrass, the following are essential:
"If You Don't Know Me By Now: The Best Of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes" This 15-track sampler contains the best collection of songs by this popular group, which is where Teddy Bear got noticed. Classics such as "If You Don't Know Me by Now," "Wake Up Everybody," The Love I Lost" and "Bad Luck" feature Pendergrass' authoritative voice. "Teddy Pendergrass" His first solo album, featuring the hits "I Don't Love You Anymore," "The Whole Town's Laughing at Me" and "Easy, Easy, Got To Take It Easy." "Life Is a Song Worth Singing" Arguably TP's best album, featuring the soul classics "Close the Door," "When Somebody Loves You Back" and "Only You." "Teddy" Another strong album that solidifies his lady-killer persona. This albums features the romantic classics "Turn Off the Lights" and "Come Go with Me," plus the uptempo "Do Me." "TP" A more somber album, this album continues Pendergrass' strong run. Another ballad classic "Love TKO" is featured, as well as his and Stephanie Mills' stirring rendition of Peabo Bryson's "Feel the Fire" and his cover of the Ashford & Simpson song "Is It Still Good to Ya." I believe "Heaven Only Knows" is the album with "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration," his final hit before his tragic accident that left him paralyzed. IMO, if I was putting together a TP discography these are all the albums you need. He did have hit songs after his accident, but the power and authority that was his signature (not to mention his sex-symbol persona) was only a shade of what it used to be. [Edited 3/26/07 6:45am] THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. TP and Teddy are great albums. But I also enjoyed Love Language. His first album after the accident. I don't think his voice was as strong as it once was but it had some nice songs. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

If you're putting together a Teddy Pendergrass discography, here are the songs I would use: THE HAROLD MELVIN & THE BLUE NOTES YEARS: "The Love I Lost" "If You Don't Know Me By Now" "Don't Leave Me This Way" "Hope That We Can Be Together Soon" "Bad Luck" "Yesterday I Had the Blues" "Where Are All My Friends" "Wake Up Everybody" "Satisfaction Guaranteed (Or Take Your Love Back)" "Tell the World How I Feel about 'Cha Baby" "I Miss You" THE SOLO YEARS: "I Don't Love You Anymore" "The Whole Town's Laughing at Me" "Easy, Easy Got to Take It Easy" "And If I Had" "Close the Door" "When Somebody Loves You Back" "Only You" "Get Up, Get Down, Get Funky, Get Loose" "Cold Cold World" "Turn Off the Lights" "Come Go with Me" "Do Me" "Love TKO" "Feel the Fire" "Is It Still Good to Ya" "Can't We Try" "You're My Latest, My Greatest Inspiration" [Edited 3/26/07 6:42am] THE TRAFFIC JAMMERS, The Org's house band: VAINANDY -- lead singer; NAJEE -- bass; THE AUDIENCE -- guitar; PHUNKDADDY -- rhythm guitar; ALEX de PARIS -- keyboards; Da PRETTYMAN -- keyboards; FUNKENSTEIN -- drums. For all intents and purposes, Teddy Pendergrass was the entire persona of Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes. Outside of Melvin, none of the other guys could sing at all (if I'm not mistaken, Melvin was the one who sang primary co-lead on "Hope That We Could be Together Soon" with Sharon Paige). In fact, the association was so strong that some people confuse songs like "Wake Up Everybody," "If You Don't Know Me by Now" and "Bad Luck" with Pendergrass' solo period. I know, "It don`t hurt now" is beautiful It used to be everytime I would hear a sad song and I would die It reminds me of when you and I were so much in love I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat I'd just sit at home and I'd weep But now all that has changed I found someone to ease my pain and it don't hurt now (no,not now) Baby it don't hurt now (no,not now) See there's no more sleepless nights No more heartaches and no more fights and it don't hurt now (no no) if this song had been released as a single back then,it would now be thought of as a 70s soul classic!

Teddy Pendergrass, IMO, was the greatest male sex symbol in soul music. His "Ladies Night" concerts were legendary -- female-only audiences with shows starting at midnight with the women receiving either a flower, some chocolate or a teddy bear when they entered the arena (and I mean, 18,000 women filled in a stadium-type arena). Pendergrass' combination of his voice, his persona and songs ("Close the Door," "Turn Off the Lights" and "Come Go with Me" are such masculine love songs) had legions of women running to the stage throwing their drawers at him, yelling "You can have what's in the drawers, too!" FWIW, I prefer Teddy P. as a Blue Note. I'd probably add "I'm Weak for You" and "Keep On Loving You" in place of some solo songs. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
