I was listening to some Pat Benatar last night, early stuff and some recent stuff and i thought, Where the hell are rock females?? Think about it, can you name one? Joan Jett, Pat and Heart are really the only ones that still record, but think about what gets hyped and pushed there are no real rock females out there, the female artists out there are either sex objects (beyonce,xtina) or nut jobs (bjork,lily allen etc) but ROCK, there are none. And dont say Jewel,Lucinda Williams or Norah because though they are good too, they arent ROCK. So have Rock Females been reduced to Avril and Kelly Clarkson? Sad Sad Sad.

I'm guessing she got tired of the uphill Rock battle because the current material is Blues/R&B.
We crossed paths as Black artists fighting the good fight on the L.A. Rock circuit during the early 80s.
I was with Marcus Malone and she was in a group called Roach & The Whiteboys.
(a concept created by her mentor at the time, Brian O'Neal of The Busboys)
One of the high points of her set back then was an incendiary version of Elvis Costello's Pump It Up.

My Ruin are excellent. Did you know that Tairrie B used to be a rapper and signed to Eazy-E/NWA's label Ruthless Records? My friend Quincy "QD3" Jones III (yes, the son of THE quincy jones), produced some of her songs on Ruthless.

They are out there. You just gotta get off commercial radio.

Check out Halestorm. Lzzy (she dropped her i a long time ago) has one of the best voices out there and she plays guitar. They are even on a major label, Atlantic.

After the recording in the Hartwall Areena (Helsinki) on the 21st of October, 2005, of the new live DVD End of an Era (released June 2006), the four other members of Nightwish decided that it was best to continue Nightwish without Tarja Turunen,[11] a feeling they expressed through an open letter which was given to Turunen by Tuomas Holopainen after the concert, and afterwards posted on the band's website. The main justification of Turunen's dismissal given in the letter was that the band felt that her husband Marcelo Cabuli, a Argentinian businessman, and commercial interests had changed her attitude towards the band.

Turunen has responded to the incident, saying that her dismissal came entirely as a shock to her. She felt that the personal attacks on her husband were unwarranted, and that playing the issue out to the public was "senselessly cruel". Turunen was not consulted or spoken to before the letter was given to her. She expressed these feeling through her own open letter, which was published on her personal website[12] and through various TV, magazine, and newspaper interviews.

To find a replacement for Turunen as the female vocalist of the band, on March 17, 2006 the band allowed vocalists interested for the position to send in demo tapes as an audition for the spot. The band stated that it was looking for a vocalist with the ability to sing with good dynamics and versatility. However, to the surprise of some fans, the band did not specifically ask for a classically trained singer, but were open to a variety of styles and backgrounds. By the time auditions were over on January 15, 2007, the band had received over 2000 demo tapes.

During this time, speculation began to emerge as to who would eventually succeed Turunen as the female vocalist for the band. On December 6, "Lady Angellyca" of the Spanish band Forever Slave issued a statement in which she said that she was one of the strong candidates to fill the vacant role.[13] Simone Simons from the band Epica was also reported to have been chosen by Nightwish to be their new vocalist by Finnish gossip magazine called Katso!, which Simons has denied.

In response to these and other rumors, the band stated on their website that fans should not believe any source other than the band itself for information regarding the new vocalist.

The new vocalist will be revealed on May 30, 2007 along with the release of a new single, Eva, in which she is featured.
