NM Governor Announces Tennessee Shooting

"Tennessee," starring Mariah Carey, James D'Arcy and Ethan Peck, will be shot in and around Albuquerque this week through Feb. 13, Gov. Bill Richardson announced Monday.

The production expects to hire more than 50 local New Mexico crew members. Aaron Woodley is directing with Lee Daniels producing.

Tennessee follows the path of two brothers who must return to their hometown in east Tennessee from Albuquerque to look for their estranged, abusive father when one of them is diagnosed with leukemia and desperately needs a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Melissa Benoist, the Post's Ovation Award winner for best younger actor of 2006, has landed a major role in the film "Tennessee," starring James D'Arcy and Mariah Carey. It's the story of two brothers on a road trip in search of their estranged father.

Benoist plays the teen love of D'Arcy's character. She begins filming Valentine's Day in New Mexico, then in Tennessee. Her agent, Patty Kingsbaker, said she's trying to work it out so Benoist might still be able to star as scheduled in the Town Hall Arts Center's "Footloose," opening Feb. 23.

Okay, I'll calm down. Daniels has a tendency to pleasantly surprise with his casting choices.

I saw 'Wise girls' for the first time today, and i have to say i was very impressed. It was so much better than what i expected. After Glittler i didn't have much hope for this film but it surprised me.

It's the 1st time i've seen Kevin Bacon actually act

I really didn't want to see it but I was curious. At one point I walked out the room but came back because I wanted to know how it ended. I'd think with all the episodes of Law & Order: SVU I've seen it'd be a piece of cake but really, it's a subject I don't want to become desensitized to. Overall I thought it was well done.

She's picked up a Southern drawl to play a waitress/ singer who flees her controlling husband to join two brothers on their journey from New Mexico to Tennessee to locate their estranged father. Lance Reddick plays her husband; Ethan Peck (Gregory's grandson) and Adam Rothenberg play the brothers.

"It's not about my character, but she has an important part of the story without the whole thing resting on my shoulders," Mariah tells MTV News. (You may recall she was crucified by the press for her starring role in Glitter.) "Plus, I'll be able to get up and go to work and be somebody else for the day, and we like that because sometimes you just need to get away."

She's writing a song with Willie Nelson for the project, which is directed by Aaron Woodley and produced by Lee Daniels of Monster's Ball.

Bernie announced he wasn't part of the project, and rapper TI wasn't confirmed yet. Also Willie Nelson's status regarding appearing in the film is still vague, though confirmed as co-writer for Mariah's song in the film.

The movie sounds interesting if it's a hit,Janet might regret walking away from it.
