Some heard the album...here's a quick review:

I had the huge honour of being able to hear American Doll Posse today at Sonybmg headquaters in Finland and I thought I shared the experience with you.

The album in simply put excellent! I can’t say anything bad of it honestly. Its like sitting on a rollercoaster ride and it starts easy and suddenly it goes to more rock oriented sounds. I think Tori managed to combine elements of all her previous albums and add some of her favourite artists influence in the mix (Glam rock, Led Zeppelin infulences can be heard). There is also one track that reminded me of 60’s pop and other that came close to modern country. There are more guitars here than ever before and partially the sound is more American than before, which isn’t a bad thing.

Also added in the mix are horns and a harp (I think). So it is much more varied than Beekeeper or Scarlet’s Walk. Gone is also time of being too political and back is warrior woman. I can honestly say, that this is much better than 2 previous albums. It has some short interludes so the way it’s been put together is in the same style as Boys For Pele.

In other words, this is an album worth of waiting!!!

I like the cover better as a full spread like this. The other looks like a hack job.

So is she going to be playing dress-up at every show? Will there be constume changes. Not sure how keen I am on that idea.

Yeah, me too. Sometimes I look at the picture and am intrigued. Other times, it bugs the piss out of me.

But the cover for Beekeeper was pretty hideous and I loved that album, so I doubt it will have much impact on my enjoyment of the music.

I liked the picture with the house and the blood on the leg. But I'm not too sure about these other chicks.

I was fine with the Beekeeper pose. At least the cover. The suspended apples and stuff seemed pretty forced too.

I loved the first ADP shot. That would've made the perfect cover. This one looks too fake and overdone.

The Beekeeper pose didn't work for me, cuz it looked like a candid shot of her smirking with a bunch of superimposed flowers around her. There were an infinite amount of better shots they could've used from those sessions and especially the tourbook.

yep, pretty fake-o. But she's a songwriter not a visual artist, her look has always had a borrowed quality to it. Never affects the music, thank goodness.

omg are you guys saying THIS is the actual cover? who's directing
this artwork? is it Tash? lol

gosh i wish they'd just use that first promo shot with the bible
and the blood running down her leg.

this is like Strange Little Girls Pt II.

enough with the dress up already! just strap a piglet to ur breast
or kneel down on a dirty matress out in a field. get dirty get yer
hair messed up.

if the vibe of the album is warrior princess, this cover tells me
it's an ukranian version of desperate housewives

biggrin

anywayz. just read the lyrics and i'm sure i will love some of the
songs. so no need to go all viscious queen mode on her just yet

giggle
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Yeah, not too keen on the cover. I don't have a problem with the characters, per se, but I'd prefer for them to be inside the booklet. Way too reminiscent of SLG. The Church shot should have been the cover.

Still, all I really care about is the music. I have a feeling this disc is gonna blow us all away!!!

i like the concept. I think Tori is trying to do something different and creative, and there's nothing wrong with that. I think it will all depend on how good the music is, of course..

Did you guys read about the hidden blogs that each character will have? I think that's a rather cool idea.

She clearly borrowed from Helen Mirren for the character on the left.

I've never been much of a Tori Amos fan, but it just seems to me that every album is some sort of fully submerged concept disc with Tori masquerading as some sort of iconic wannabe.

Can't agree with that at all. Her albums usually have a theme, but few would qualify as true "concept" albums. As for her "masquerading", the only other disc where that might apply is on SLG. Scarlet's Walk had a character that was central to it, but Scarlet was really just an idealized version of Tori.
