The Truth i dont mind, most of it is good, Crystal Ball however is one of his worst moments, a few things here and there but wow it was awful. This is where i feel Prince was at a bad production stage, he was being influenced by Kirky J who was the worst, him and Tony M together where the dynamic loss. Most of the stuff i liked from Prince in the 90's was the guitar-rock-acoustic stuff, what i thought was awful and a lowering of his standard was this rap-rb that he was doing alot of. People will take something that someone else had a hit with and absolutely wear it the fuck out. That's exactly why we need to wake the hell up and start boycotting some of this MTV Unplugged-related bullshyt (please quote me!). Eric did unplugged first because he love the blues as most classic rock icons do. But everyone else (IMO) seem to do it right after him to prove to the world that they have "talent" without the electric guitar or keyboard synthesizers. I understand that the true talented artists want to perform live without lip-syncing. But please, they should never forsake the electric guitars or keyboard synths in the process. Synths alone is the main reason how Prince invented the MPLS sound.

I really don't get all the Robin Thicke love at all. He's got a good promotional/PR team behind him this go 'round is all I can say, because "Lost Without You" is mediocre at best to me. It's ok on the first few listens, then after that the holes in it just sink the ship. The lyrics are weak and unimaginative and the music is monotonous and uninspired. I dig acoustic music, so that is not the problem. My problem is that there is no texture to the song. Would it be too much to add a bridge/B-section or something to vary the groove?
It annoys me that Thicke gets incessant urban radio play here in Chicago, when much more talented artists like Van Hunt and Rahsaan Patterson languish in obscurity. Some orgers hate on Van Hunt, but his lyrics are far more creative, colorful and imaginative than what I've heard from Thicke on his first album and this single. Also, his songs are more varied and complex than Thicke's. So I'll end this the way I started it, I just don't get all the Thicke love. To me, there's nothing extraordinary about him or his music. There are more talented artists (singer/songwriters) out there. Unfortunately they've been dropped by their labels following little or no promotion or airplay. perfection is a fallacy of the imagination...

There is a new article on Robin in the new issue of Vibe. They point out that, after the failure of the Pharrell duet ("Wanna Love U Girl"),there was no guarantee that he would even have another single. The record label was frustrated and didn't know what to do with him. They took a chance and released "Lost Without U".Thank God it's a hit because if it had bombed,it's likely that they would have dropped him.Robin's success shows what can happen when record labels actually support and nurture their artists. They gotta believe in them, even if the first few singles don't go anywhere.

vainandy said: I finally got to hear his song this morning on BET J. I've heard people say he sounded like Prince so that's the only reason I sat through the song. Yeah, his voice sounded like Prince but, as for the music, it sounded like "Prince unplugged". There was nothing to it. I was bored as hell. If the rest of his album is like that, he can keep it. A voice like that needs to have some funk behind it, instead of just a boring accoustical guitar reminding me of some damn "Kumbaya".
I already told you the Thicke songs you might like. Everybody knows you weren't going to dig "Lost Without You." You might like "Would That Make U Love Me," but I think the song you'd most like is the outtake "In My Dreams." "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

i think it's weird how some people are looking for just anything to put the guy down.
i mean, whether we like him or not, the man earned it. He's been behind the scenes for a very long time as producer who's trying to break in as an artist, and when he finally did and came out with nothing short of a flawless project he bombed so badly, and now almost 5 years later when he finally just started to break through he's being attacted like he's some random talentless act who undeservingly became famous. Nop, he earned it and he well deserves it.
