Yeah, the first three songs on that album are my favorites. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Nowadays, I think it's probably the cheesiest song in her entire catalog. why does everyone hate "Spotlight"? I like that song.Yeah,it sounds really dated these days but in the fall/winter of '87,it was a cool track.

I agree. The"Madonna"album is the jam!The Madonna/Jellybean combo was just as crucial as the Janet/Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis combo. larry luvlife

'Cause I think it's another case of "additional lyrics by Madonna". It was written by the people that wrote Holiday, so I'm thinking that Maddy just added her own lil' spin to the song... It's about as cheesy as "Special" by Janet, and everyone knows how ridiclious that song is...At least "Spotlight" didn't have a children's choir. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Ah Everybody is a hands down classic. I love all the versions that are floating around, but my favourite is the original 12" single release. Its not too dissimilar from the album version but its funkier - i think the bass is more prominent, and there are additional vocals to it. Plus i think it clocks in at a couple of minutes longer.
I do also dig the version on the Pre-Madonna compilation Steve Bray released. Its a little raw, and doesnt have as much exuberance to it, but its got more of an underground feel. I definitely dug the Confessions tour version - shame she didnt do that one instead of La Isla Bonita. The Girlie Show version is funky though. What with all those Sly Stone references - that band she had in 93 tore it up. I know it hardly broke ground when it was released, but i think its cool that her first single release was an underground club hit -written by herself. Holiday gets the plaudits as being her breakthrough, but Everybody got her a club following and a record deal - this is where it really started. Anyone who doubts Madonna's talent or ability to make music needs to look at her early club orientated work to see this girl is all about the dancing.

"Everybody" is good, but I still say "Holiday" is Madonna's best dance song to date. "And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ
"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always

you mean the "original UK 12" version. it is slightly remixed. the ORIGINAL original US 12" version is the same as the album version but a minute longer. "I don't need your forgiveness, cos I've been saved by Jesus, so fuck you."
