Midnight Star,Starpoint and Atlantic Starr---Which "Star" band do you prefer? In the 80s,the R&B bands Starpoint,Midnight Star and Atlantic Starr were extremely hot, with numerous hit songs that I'm sure you remember...
***Midnight Star---"Freak A Zoid","Wet My Whistle","The Midas Touch","Operator","No Parking On The DanceFloor" ***Atlantic Starr---"Secret Lovers","If Your Heart Isn't In It","Touch A Four Leaf Clover","Always","Circles" ***Starpoint---"Object Of My Desire","Delicious","Restless","I Want You,You Want Me","DYBO (Dance Your Butt Off)" Discuss!

What's up Man? you are talking my Talk now.but these Choices are Super Easy for me: MidnightStar Hands down:why? they had the better Album"No Parking on the Dance Floor" the Calloway Brothers had just enough of the Synth Groove to roll Proper.Solar was thriving then.they help bring in Babyface.they always seem to have the Right Jam for a minute or two."Midas touch" was cool as well.they had a good little run.not a long term Act but I'd easily take them over the others here just for having there Groove a bit better overall. Atlantic Star:IMHO had better overall Songs&structure than Midnight Star but they were always stuck into One kind fo Groove&Never could seem to put it all together."Secret Lovers" was the jam.they outdid Stevie Wonder on the CHeating Lovers Theme.but you see that is what they became a theme Act.they got stuck on one theme&ran with it.the Lewis Brothers should have been bigger with Adult Radio but it didn't happen. StarPoint: one of the Finest Lead Singers Ever.the Lady was Stuffed.they were catchy but there Material was like Midnight Star Circa 84.they would probably but on a Better show though than the other two Bands but they were limited with Solid Material overall to Me.each has a Edge over the other in something but for my Money MidnightStar is clearly the better of the Bands.but Atlantic Star's Songs will have the longer lasting Impact. mistermaxxx

Extremely difficult to choose......, I would have to go with Atlantic Starr, especially one of my all time favorites... "If Your Heart Isn't In It". Nevertheless... Starpoint-"Object Of My Desire" is right up there. Beautiful Day! By the way... DavidEye, you have excellent taste in music if I must say so myself.

SkletonKee... , believe me... I have not nearly forgot.
What did you say about new tracks , is there something I am unaware of... To be honest... I have let go of the music industry lately, it's been somewhat uninspirational (personally), any suggestions... anyone.

Earlier this year FiveStar (minus Doris and Stedman) released a new album...and the songs ive heard are really really good..
now, as far as the rest of the musical world..Depending on what you like, this year has been a real strong year for music... If you like kickback lounge there is the new album by Zero7. Its bordoreline jazz meets dance (but not in a jazzanopha kinda way). if great pop is your thang...aimee mann has a wonderful new album called "Lost In Space". if great rock is your thang thin diffenetly check out Bruce Springstens "The Rising". if your an alt pop lover then Beth Orton's new album is a must...it has an awesome duet with Emmy Lou Harris that just floats with pleasure... and, r&B? Rafeal Saddiq has a good album out right now...it seems to be a love it or hate it kinda album, but im loving it... Other recommended listens: LazyDog2, Bjork "Vaspertine", Mulholand Dr Original Soundtrack, and...Norah Jones' debut disc...

Atlantic Starr by a mile!! I can't think of a finer slow jam than Send For Me!! Damn! That's one of the best of ALL time, along with Losing You (though I really dig Starpoint's 'Til The End of Time too)! I like the other two bands as well, but AS is tops.

Here's a little trivia about each of these bands...
***In 1987,Atlantic Starr had their biggest hit with the song "Always",which went to Number One on the pop charts. This is a gorgeous song with beautiful lyrics. However,it was originally written by the group in 1983 and REJECTED by their producer who didn't think it would be a hit!! In 1986,the guys in the band took the song,re-worked it and watched it become a spring '87 smash. ***Midnight Star's 1983 album 'No Parking On the Dancefloor' contains the kickass ballad "Slow Jam".That song is one of the FIRST songs that Babyface wrote for another artist, back when his own band The Deele were preparing their debut album. ***Starpoint had their greatest success in the mid-80s with the huge hit "Object Of My Desire" in 1986.But they had been around since the mid-70s.Some of their earliest singles include "I Just Wanna Dance With You"(1978) and the suggestive "Delicious"(1983). ***Midnight Star's 'No Parking On The Dancefloor' album was a monster hit in 1983/84.It produced four major hit singles: "Freak-A-Zoid","Wet My Whistle","Electricity" and the title track. In addition, album tracks like "Slow Jam" and "Playmates" also received substantial radio airplay.

Sharon Bryant co-lead singer of Atlantic Starr first solo album in 1989 Here I Am didn't do as well as her record company(Polygram Records) thought. It was an ok album though. She did have one slamming hit off of the record though,"Let Go". Also noteworthy off of that album was her remake of Steve Perry's great 1984 hit "Foolish Heart".

Atlantic Star,
because of the excellent "Circles" & the smooth "Send For Me".. "Always" was okay as a song, BUT IT WAS PLAYED TO DEATH & now when I hear that song I have to turn the radio off or leave the room.. "Object of My Desire" reminds me of a (teenage) club I used to go to all the time back then (oh la!) Midnight Star was good, I just wasn't into their songs, & I think that "No Parking" was played a little too much as well Still; at least these were (are) REAL singers & musicians, so I give them props for that. I'll see you tonight..

My trivia: ***I saw the lead singer of Atlantic Starr at a club in Indy and her hair was so cute...that was in 1990 and I was pregnant in a club...it's a wonder my child has made it to 11 years old (gigglin) and no, i was't drinkin' ***my cousin was engaged to one of the members of Midnight Starr and they actually used to come around my grandmothers house back in the day. The members were from Ohio and Indiana. ***I still say that the lead singers eye from starpoint had me so focused on if she could straighten it out that i would miss most of the song because I was staring. *** and I think the boys from Five Starr were upset that they didn't get to wear the fuschia lipstick like their sisters. thank you, and good night
