I love "Dangerous". It must be one of the only albums that has sold as much as it has (30 million I believe) and doesn't get the props it deserves.

I love songs like "Who Is It", "Give In To Me","Remember The Time",
"Will U Be There" (MJ's vocals on it are incredible. The Gospel Choir was a great addition),etc. The really great thing about "Dangerous" is that it doesn't sound outdated at all (unlike "Bad"). It still sounds fresh. That album still sounds so current. MJ defenitly did his thing on that album.
"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

I would say Dangerous is his most overrated album by his fans.

His most underrated stuff are the albums he did with his brothers; Destiny, Truimph and even Going Places...

Dangerous? no way! Take hardcore MJ fans and that's the fave album. and the general public knows that album. Now Forever, Michael....nobody knows about it! Heck some "hardcore" mj fans don't even have the album! *shakes head*

I heard a great story about the making of this album. One of the producers was in the studio with Michael and he told Michael what kind of style to sing the song in, and Michael did it. and when he was done Michael goes "Wow, that was great...Now let's do it my way!"

Now I agree that "Liberian Girl" is one of his most underrated songs, but as far as Dangerous being underrated, I disagree.
I mean it launched a tour--to which I have the concert DVD and video DVD--and Michael had awards coming out his booty from it. Hell he even sang for Oprah from the album.

I say the most underrated album from Michael is "Invincible". Publicity for it was a nightmare and who's bright idea was it for the album to get released a week after 9/11? Is that idiotic marketing or what.

And there's only one video from the album "You Rock My World". (He looked good performing it live, but damn, there's so many other good songs that non-fans don't know about!"Unbreakable" should still be his comeback anthem.)

It was completely fucked up. And I know Michael didn't say it was a good idea to release an album when one of the centers of his fanbase is in ruins and on high alert and trying to find family memebers.

Makes me sad.

The thing about many hardcore fans, is that they don't know very much about Michael music outside his solo albums and the commercial stuff that he did with the Jackson 5/Jacksons.

Take the song "All I do" which was a hit for Troop back in the 80s, most people included the hardcore fans didn't know the Jackson 5 initially did that song, because it was never release, but if you were a hardcore Jackson fan back in the 70s you would know that they originally sang it. Even me, a fan back in the 70s is still discovering alot of J5 stuff, songs like "Too late to change the time", "Touch", "Keep on Dancing" etc, and they are great. Infact in away it's nice that he has done a whole load of stuff that people don't know about, that have remained hidden gems.

You don't half talk a lot of bollocks sometimes. I know I know more about MJ's music than you, I just have a wider appreciation of his career span.

BTW, talking of old 70s J5 songs, did anyone realise Mos Def has sampled 'If I Don't Love You This Way' on his latest album?

Invincible.
The album has some songs that are way better than songs on
History(2nd disc).
Whatever happens,Break of dawn,Heaven can wait...the slow jams.
But some of the uptempo songs sound dated even at the time they were released. It was like he was trying 2 hard 2 make his songs sound
special with all of the effects,in fact it's disturbing.
anyway,still a good album.

Agree. While I consider it one of his worst albums, it still had some very good songs that are very under-rated.

Oh please get over your hardcore self, you go to any MJ fansite and they are stuck on Michael 5 solo albums, especially their overratted Dangerous, followed by History and Bad. Many of them know very little about the other stuff besides the grestest Hits J5/Jackson stuff. This forum knows more about The Jacksons/J5 stuff outside the obvious singles than most fansites.

Well the fans who've conversed with obviously aren't "hardcore" fans. IMO, a "hardcore" MJ fan would own all the Jackson 5 studio albums (atleast) and probably some of the live/greatest hits compilations. They'd own all the Jacksons albums, possibly with the exception of "2300 Jackson Street". You'd have to be a Jackson family fan, not just a Michael Jackson fan, to be interested in that album. Then ofcourse they would own all Michael Jackson's solo albums (from Got to Be There to Invincible). They'd also own a few MJ compilations (expecially Number Ones and TUC, with new material). They'd have a good collection of videos and DVD's. They would've had to have seen (either live or videos) the Destiny, Triumph, Victory, Bad, Dangerous and HIStory would tours. Even if they've just seen random performances of each. Not seeing the Jacksons tours in full can be excused because there isn't alot of footage from those tours. But a "harcore" MJ fan would have to have atleast seen the Bad, Dangerous and HIStory tour in full (in full doesn't mean every concert from the tour, lol, just one full concert from the tour). A harcore fan would've read Moonwalk and Dancing the Dream. Also, don't forget the Jacksons Variety Show. Any "hardcore" MJ fans know that you must watch those shows if you want to see Michael showcase all of his talent. Some of his best ever performances come from the variety show. Then ofcourse a true fan of Michael Jackson would also not give a shit how much he changed his appearance and they would consider him innocent of child molestation. They can be objective and say he shouldn't have had so much plastic surgery, and he shouldn't had let children sleep in his bed, but in the end it doesn't really matter to them because his appearance means nothing to them in the full scale of things and he's innocent of any crimes, so letting children in his bed isn't that bad because nothing wrong happened.

That's a "hardcore" MJ fan. I just described most MJ fans I know.

I practically know all that and more, I am definetely not a hardcore fan, I stopped being that a long time ago. I don't hate Michael, infact I admire many of his achievements. But the fact of the matter there are alot of fans out there that call themselves "hardcore" and are stuck on only his adult, solo albums, which is not much. I've been to the fansites and alot of them go mad if you say you prefer his earlier stuff, even though there is a lot more material from the first 15 years of his career than the last 20 years.

No one stereotypes MJ fans, they stereotype themselves.

Hah I could own one album and still consider myself a fan..Nobody has to justify their fandom to you whatsgoingon

You pretty much contribute the same nonsense to MJ threads, that's what comes out:

typical whatsgoingon: ''Everyone who likes MJ after his skin turned white is not a real fan. MJ lost his talent with his skin colour. Dont try to argue with me boyo, do you have Jermaine's solo album's? Do you have Tito's underwear that he threw into audience at apollo 74? NO? Well shut your mouth then!''

Where did I say you need to justify your fandom to me, your pic alone says you are a fan. It was Darling Dear(an obvious hardcore fan) that gave a whole list of things that makes you a "real fan". I just said there are many hardcore fans that know very little of MJ material outside his 5, solo albums.

They're not fans of the music though. I encounter them all the time and they're more obsessed with him than the music. You meet them and they start singing Heal The World and You Are Not Alone over and over again as if they're the only singable songs they know.

They don't even know the guest appearances on other people's albums.

Still, whatsgoingon always generalises MJ fans as if there is only one type of hardcore fan. You really talk as if it's fundamentally impossible to know and own his entire back catalogue [and extras] and appreciate his work over the last 20 years on top of that. Myself as a hardcore fan of the music, I fall into the category that you talk as if doesn't exist. I really find it condescending that just because you obviously prefer MJ up until his mid-20s, that it's practically a proven fact that people either enjoy one half of his career or the other eek

The funny thing is that you talk about him pretty much as often (or more) as any current fan. There are so many people I've loved in the past and then ditched as their later work wasn't to my liking, but I don't post about them every day.

The most underrated MJ album of all time is THRILLER, because nowadays people (the ones that haven't bought the Lp) only remember Billie Jean, The girl is mine that one that has a nice guitar solo and the clip of Thriller.
It's a shame that terrific tracks like Baby be mine, Human Nature, PYT, The lady in my life and even Wanna be startin' something are only popular among the dedicated fans.

Point well taken. Thriller became such a phenomenon that it's often overlooked for its musical merits. Especially for the 3 songs I highlighted.

But I believe that Off The Wall gets my vote.

I have all of MJ's albums with his Brothers & I am aware of all of the albums he did w/motown. Most of the material is quite good, but "Forever Michael" is a very mediocre album. "Dangerous" is quite underrated because with the exception of Black or White/Remember The Time I bet most non-fans couldn't name one song off the "Dangerous" album.
