McCartney Dumps capitol for Starbucks

Paul McCartney has become the first artist to sign with the Starbucks new Music Label. His contract was up and he was not happy with them for their lack of promotion for his Chaos cd which was nominated for 4 grammies, as he said "They did nothing with it, why should i stay". McCartney also takes his back catalogue of solo work and Wings work which he owns and now can sell through the starbucks chain $$$$$. Now people may think this is selling out, BUT, its really the only way the older guys can get play now, since MTV/vh1/BET dont play anyone over 21, and the same thing with Radio, expect to see more of this kind of "business" moves going on.

Selling Out? Are you kidding?!? Starbucks is one of the best places to promote REAL music.

I didn't even know that coffee houses started having their own record labels, let alone Starbucks.

Could Prince sign with Starbucks too?
hmmm

I think its a genius move! Some people say selling out because its a "commercial" type thing, but hey these guys cant get ariplay or videoplay why shouldnt they sign with Starbucks, or give their new song to a Car commercial.

Honestly Prince should do it, obviously there are more Starbucks then CD stores at this point. Also he would get the airplay in the stores locations that he wont get from anywhere else, now if Starbucks would get a Video channel they could run MTV off the map.

I have to admit, the CDs I see peddled at Starbucks stores is usually pretty decent stuff. Today, I noticed they were selling Aretha, Chet Baker, the Doors, Carley Simon and decent jazz comp with the jazz giants.

It could be worse, I suppose.

I think Starbucks owns a record store chain, as well. Hear Music?

Well its good to at least someone committed to MUSIC. And its an alternative to the "Moronic" idea of targeting kids with Music, thats why the industry is where its at right now, its not downloads, its the fact you are peddling music to the most un-loyal fan base out there.

Kind of strange but could be a good move. Then again, I figured the Starbucks CD fad was over. Paul is right about his last album getting no promotion. I usually keep track of the new releases and was shocked to find out that had been out for months at one point when I figured it had not been released yet.

"Shower the people you love with carmel macattes..."

Apple Latte? Now you're just being crazy! I usually try to stray from the hot sugar drinks at Starbucks (I tried that Carmel thing...it was gross as hell) but if I get a regular coffee there, I'm awake! In the summer, though, I do like my occassional grande frozen vanilla bean frappacunio! Yum! It's kind of cheap in comparison to most of their stuff, too.

I wonder if this means we'll also see US remasters of all his old albums, in the vein of the UK ones. I have them all, and they have bonus tracks, so there would be little reason to get any (except for packaging, which would surely be better than the UK ones), but besides, Chaos And Creation is actually my favorite solo McCartney akbum - while I love McCartney, Ram, Flaming Pie and Band On The Run, they all have their 'these should have been left off' tracks, while Chaos And Creation is solid throughout (minus the patchy bonus track), so I'm way more excited about the new album.

I think it's a good move. Hopefully we'll get some nice reissues of his back catelog. I really need to dig out my McCartney CDs and give them a spin.

Flowers in the Dirt is still my favorite of the last 20 years. I like Band on the Run the best overall, I would say. (of course, we already have a beautiful reissue of Band on the Run.)

Starbucks aren't located everywhere, but sadly you can't run just a CD store anymore.

Sound move, if you ask me. The bland following the bland.
