Put Together A Supergroup I'm sure everyone has thought to themselves "wouldn't it have been great if so and so would have played with so and so". So my question to all you out there, what would your ultimate band look like? Or at least what's a supergroup you would have liked to have seen (it could be a group of people who could or have worked together, living or dead). Here's one that I've thought of, keeping in my mind I've made my lineup fairly BIG.
Oscar Peterson-Piano Bernie Worrell-Organ, Clavinet, Synthesizers John McLaughlin-Acoustic and electric guitars Jimi Hendrix-guitar Stanley Clarke-upright bass Bootsy Collins-Electric Bass (that's right TWO bass players) Elvin Jones-Drums John Coltrane-Tenor Saxophone Rahsaan Roland Kirk-Saxes, flutes, various woodwinds Gerry Mulligan-Baritone Saxophone Willie Colon-Trombone Dizzy Gillespie-Trumpet Freddie Hubbard-Trumpet Angelo Moore-Frontman, Theremin, maybe some saxophones if he wanted 
Don Sugarcane Harris-Violin L. Shankar-Violin This may seem like quite a big mess, but I'd like to think that it would produce a good blend of funk, fusion, big band swing, be-bop, rock and blues. | |

Mine is a 80's and 90's band:
Prince : Lead vocals&guitar Eddie Van Halen : Guitar Vernon Reid : Guitar Stevie Wonder : Piano & Keys Mark King : Bass Zender : Bass Stewart Copeland : Drumms Additional vocals/duets : MJ and Sandra St.Viktor Candy or Herb Alpert : Horn section Guess it will sound a bit like a The Family Stand/Living Colour/Prince mix

Oh, man. A supergroup of my own liking. Let's see:
LEAD VOCALIST: Marvin Gaye. He could sing any style of music and his versatility will be his greatest asset. CO-LEAD VOCALIST: Phillip Bailey. Arguably the greatest co-lead vocalist in soul music, Bailey's incredible falsetto will add versatility to this band's music. FEMALE CO-LEAD VOCALIST: Sharon Bryant. I always remember her voice being so powerful on songs like "When Love Calls" and so soothing on "Touch a Four-Leaf Clover." She would be a great transition between Gaye and Bailey. LEAD GUITAR: Ernie Isley. To me, this is a no-brainer. I love the melodic style of his rock-style solos and the silkiness of his rhythm playing. BASS GUITAR: Louis Johnson. Bootsy Collins and Larry Graham deserve some love, but "Thunder Thumbs" had a very explosive style that was fluid and accessible. DRUMMER: Larry Blackmon. Cameo's visual representative and lead vocalist was originally the drummer. Blackmon's song-writing skills also will add some funk to the production, and we'll even throw out some "Oowwws!" KEYBOARDS: David Frank. The musical genius behind The System's innovative techno/pop/soul sound in the 1980s. PRODUCERS: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They will mesh their creative and technological juices with these artists; they have a track record of not being as dogmatic with their style, unlike most other big-time producers. Jam & Lewis occasionally will bring in MFSB and The Phenix Horns as studio musicians. I would also be the band's personal manager, that way I could hang out with everyone and have a front row seat. I would hope they would record an album of original stuff, then when they went touring, they could pay half of the album's content and half of their respective stuff. I picture the shows lasting like 5-6 hours, simply because so much talented and so much great music to be heard. Mannnn this would be the ultimate. I think someone els I would never miss a show. Never. Never. Never. Never. Never. Like ThreadBare said about their group, I would follow mine around like a Deadhead, even though I'd be the personal manager. This thread is like talking about winning the lottery, it gets you all excited and happy thinking about it, but then you realize it can't happen, so it is a bummer. Oh well. Still fun to dream about. | |

I remember back when the group Switch explained that their name came from the fact that they were all multi-instrumentalists, so they would often switch instruments in the middle of a performance! With that idea in mind, I thought it would be Kool to have a supergroup like that, made up of folks that could switch instruments at a moment's notice, and still Kill it! Sly Stone -- Keyboards, rhythm guitar, Bass, drums, percussion and vocals Stevie Wonder -- Keyboards, Drums, Percussion, Harmonica, Vocals Prince -- Guitar, keyboards and Bass and drums, percussion and vocals Lewis Taylor -- lead and rhythm Guitar, Keyboards, Bass, percussion, vocals Shuggie Otis -- lead and rhythm Guitar, Keyboards, Bass, drums, percussion and b.vocals David Sancious-- Keyboards , Lead and rhythm Guitar, Bass and background vocals Marcus Miller -- Bass, Keyboards, Bass Clarinet, percussion and background vocals Narada Michael Walden -- Drums, Keyboards, bass, percussion and vocals ... everyone could shift to the next instrument!
