Betty was before her time, and unfortunately, her music was not well received back then because of the raunchy lyrics in her music, although she did have a large fan base, I have 3 of her cds, and I remember my oldest sister and her boyfriend going to her concerts. It was rumored she had an off and on affair with Jimi Hendrix, and even introduced Miles to Jimi's music. Last I heard, she she's still alive, but left the music scene quietly and hasn't returned since. [Edited 3/20/07 16:45pm] | |

I finally got my first Betty Davis album They Say I'm Different thanks to continuous recommendations here on the org. Ive only had a chance to listen tot he first 3 or 4 tracks so far but I'm loving it. Funky for days! Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off | |

Betty Davis fan right here! I got into her in 2005 after watching a Miles Davis documentary. During which Carlos Santana stated that she made Madonna look like Sesame Street. After such a bold statement I had to check out her albums. Needless to say, the albums are so good its ridiculous. As another orger noted, she was far ahead of her time and should be essential listening for anyone that loves great music. They Say I'm Different is my favorite album, followed closely by Nasty Gal. | |

Made Madonna look like sesame street?? Really. Is/was she something like Millie Jackson? Yeah she's like Millie Jackson with a raw sound. I would say she sounds much wilder than Millie though. They are both very frank with thir feelings but Betty delivers it with such bravado and aggressiveness that one can tell that she is not putting/pretending on any level. | |
