i can deal with the dreampop side to a certain extent (spiritualized, cocteau twins, my bloody valentine to some degree), but when it gets too indie-shoegazer-ish, i get bored. i know it's good for my digestion, but i have a low tolerance for oaty music.

I am a devoted Lush freak - 'Split' is probably my all time favorite record
sure wish Miki would start recording again

Lush and Curve are two of my favorite bands of all time. Early Cranes had some shoegazer elements also. And check out The Heart Throbs' 'Cleopatra Grip' album from 1990. Very cool.
I don't really like when guys do the shoegazer thing although I could tolerate Ride.

I was a pretty big fan of the sound at the time, but I can't say that I think most of it's aged very well.
There was a time when MBV's Loveless was my favourite album and something I compulsively listened to all the time. I very rarely return to it now, though parts of it still sound incredibly great to me, To Here Knows When and Sometimes in particular. Slowdive? I don't like the debut much, but parts of Souvlaki are very good, When The Sun Hits being my favourite. However I much prefer the more country-inflected music they made after they morphed into Mojave 3. They're one of my favourite current bands, actually. I like every album they've released, and I absolutely loved their last one. Chapterhouse had a few great singles, and Medicine and the Boo Radleys had their moments as well. Hmmmf...who else was there? Moose? not too good, I thought. I never took to Ride at all, either. I always thought the girls from Lush were terrifically sexy, but I never really got into their albums. Robin Guthrie's production on Spooky made the music seem really toothless, I thought - it had no bite whatsoever. Split was definitely better, but I stil thought most of the songs weren't too memorable. Spacemen 3 were great, one of the finest bands of that era I'd say, but I don't think they can get slotted into this description too comfortably. [Edited 3/14/07 19:35pm]

[Edited 3/14/07 19:35pm] You were a big fan, but no Curve? I forgot to mention that one, my apologies. I really like the first Curve album. I never heard anything else they recorded, however. I also forgot to mention Loop - Gilded Eternity is an album from that era I just discovered recently that I think is just fantastic. There are a few bands from that era that I still would like to go back and revisit. I heard a Cranes single on public radio around '90 or '91 and swore up and down on the spot that I needed to own that album, but I never got around to buying it. There was a Pale Saints single that a friend had that sounded great as well, but I never heard anything further from them.

There was a Pale Saints single that a friend had that sounded great as well, but I never heard anything further from them. Curve became more electronic as time went on. I have all their albums. Think a harder, colder version of Garbage. Cranes were hot from 'Wings Of Joy' to 'Loved'. The former was spooky and experimental while the latter was very polished (produced by Flood), but still had the nice friction of Alison Shaw's delicate voice vs. textural guitars. The album which those LPs bookended, 'Forever' is when they really came into their own. Robert Smith remixed the track "Jewel" for it's single release. I could go on and on. For awhile Lush, Cranes and Curve were all part of my top ten favorite artists of all time.
