it's a gay thing

You could be right. You know, all my gay friends have 90% women in their collection, whether it's disco, house, or slow music.

When they come over to my house or I go to their house, I pull out the disco and house. If I go to their house, I bring my own slow music because if I don't, it will be boring weak shit like Shitney Houston or Anita Baker all night long.

Most of my favorite slow and fast jams are by the same thing....male groups. Slow jams that have a sexy "pick up a stranger in a club at 2:00 a.m. and sleep with them" type feel such as:

Feel Me - Cameo
There'll Never Be - Switch
Always and Forever - Heatwave
You Are My Starship - Norman Conners
You Are Everything - The Stylistics
Sideshow - Blue Magic
A Love Of My Own - Blue Magic

It's not so much the words of the song but the sexy "after midnight" feel to them that makes you want to take someone to bed.

I don't care for too many solo male artists either except for hard motherfuckers like Prince or Rick James. I can't stand male solo artists like Freddie Jackson. And just look how weak the males became when they went solo compared to the group they were in:

The Commodores - Lionel Richie
The Deele - Babyface
The Gap Band - Charlie Wilson
Con-Funk-Shun - Michael Cooper

Even their solo slow songs are nothing like the slow jams they had when they were in a group. I guess with a whole group contributing, they aren't going to put up with one person making their "meaningful" shit. lol

I think you're right about that. Get a bunch of brothas together making music and it's not gonna be all about their feelings. Brothas don't bond like that. They bond over telling stories about bonin'.

So then who does the better slow jam? Men or women?

That's not fair . . . pitting "Everlasting Love" vs. "What A Wonderful Thing Love Is"?

"Is It A Crime?" vs. "A House Is Not A Home"?

"Adore" v. "Earth"?

"Do Me, Baby," vs., well, "Do Me, Baby"?

Those look pretty equal, which supports vainandy's argument about brothas singing about feelings just like women only when they are solo since you chose all songs by male solo artists. I'll have to think about this some more. hmmm

Well, the only feelings Prince is singing about in "Do Me Baby" is in his dick. lol

Prince and Rick are exceptions, that's why I love those two.

Nope. I love Tori, Madonna, Bjork, and Fiona - but the majority of my collection is comprised of male singers/bands.

Prince
The Beatles
Kevin Max
Soul Asylum
Wilco
Jayhawks
David Bowie
John Lennon
Stevie Wonder
Rufus Wainwright
U2
Nat King Cole
Frank Sinatra
Vic Damone

and several others.

I like to her women sing more than men...

Count me on that sentiment too sexy

Women are more expressive IMO. I know this may seem like a sexist comment, but I always think that women are more uninhibited and emotional in expressing their pain and joy than men.

The CLOSEST male vocalist to convey emotions like a female vocalist is Little Jimmy Scott IMO.

I used to be solely women....especially during middle school. I definitely have more male artists in my collection now. It was almost split down the middle at one point, now it's slightly more women artists in my collection. In general when it comes to vocalists, I do prefer women over men.

I'd say it comes and goes in cycles... I go through periods where I play almost exclusively male singers, and then a while later it seems to flip over to females.
