oof, I missed this comment when scanning the thread earlier.

any particular recommendations?

My favorite albums are 'Wings Of Joy', 'Forever' and 'Loved'. There is also a nice two disc retrospective called The EP Collection. And if you're feeling particularly masochistic then look for the hard to find 'La Tragedie d'Oreste et Electre'. I love that one, but that's because hearing Alison recite Jean-Paul Sartre in bad French appeals to me. lol Since then they have evolved into sleepy electronica. neutral

I remember hearing about this as well - that's another one I'd like to check out.

I really like that Heart Throbs record, but it leans more towards the dreampop side of this thread.

Cranes were hot from 'Wings Of Joy' to 'Loved'. The former was spooky and experimental while the latter was very polished (produced by Flood), but still had the nice friction of Alison Shaw's delicate voice vs. textural guitars. The album which those LPs bookended, 'Forever' is when they really came into their own. Robert Smith remixed the track "Jewel" for it's single release.

sounds right up my alley - i'm going to try to track this down. do you know off the top of your head if their stuff is still in print?

According to Amazon, 'Forever' is the only one of the three still in print (as an import). neutral

More of their releases are out of print than in print. confused

import edit

I love their song "Going Out Tonight". It almost sounds like Lush. Sing-Sing's first album is mighty fine also.

Everyone seems to love that song. The vocal sends chills down my spine (in a good way)

Lush never got their due, and it's a shame. The songwriting and vocals were so one-of-a-kind. I really miss them! It's cool that Emma is doing the sing sing thing and I hope they keep putting out records (I know Lisa is busy being Mom these days)

I agree it's a little creepy. I can totally imagine a video for that song. The part where the woman gets drugged and raped--it's very dark.
